Quad Cortex shipping delay?

Just dropping another here to keep everyone excited! I know I am! Forgive me if this was posted already.

This one preset here has me so exited!!! Love how later in the preset it is like one out is going to the left and one to the right.

last nite I was watching Pete Thorn’s live feed from Sunday (12/20) where he mentioned his brief experience with the QC… he had to send it back for some updating… but he’ll get it back again for a proper review in January… but while he had the QC he did a capture of his Suhr PT100… and he was very impressed… 1st with the step-by-step instructions the QC lays out to do a capture… and then the results of the capture… he said (paraphrasing) it was one of those rare experiences when you’re trying out a new product and you just want to keep playing and playing with no regard to time… and he has so many great guitar tone options in his studio that it is a rare experience for him indeed… I’m looking forward to his review in January.

Just read the new update and got a bit worried…
They write about shorter and more spaced updates and that makes me think that we are still a ways from final units shipping…
On the other hand, new captures are always nice
What do you guys think?

their previous update was Dec 10th… so 18 days later for this short update is about right I would think… by the way does anyone have an actual number of how many 1st tier orders there are?

There were 1000 tier 1 preorders and an addtional 1000 tier 2 preorders. Tier 1 sold out, ot sure about the tier 2.

Also a bit worried about the wording in the update. The last updates are small but take more time? Update cycle has been about 2 weeks and now it gets longer? So are we looking at months of waiting or launch and then updates?

How do you read the update?

Yeah, that’s basically what I understood from the wording…

“shorter and more spaced updates”

This make me think that it will take much more than few weeks.

The inference is that they expect to issue more than one future update, with at least 18 days between them. This would seem to put any delivery in January as a long shot.
It also indicates that third party component manufacturers deliveries have been delayed. This points to hardware build delays.

At this point I’m feeling neither thing is going to happen soon :sob:

Totally agree, that sounds like more runway being paved. I can’t think of any other reason to throw that in there except to provide an order of magnitude for the delay resulting from the component swap.

If this is essentially a hardware hangup, I would hope they’re able to utilize this time to gain ground on some of the ‘later’ items like the looper, so after they finally do release this thing - we get hit with some real feature-rich updates pretty quickly thereafter

Yep, they are pulling a Fractal … at least they are giving dates to keep hopes high. Fractal with the FM3 just said „soon" for over a year and then came up with a batch that had missing headphone jack which they tried to get rid of first. I feel sorry for those who already paid a percentage for delivery in September. I need to check if my credit card has been billed now.

I painfully sat through all of that, it was brutal. In the end I waited almost a year and was disappointed to the point I sold it. I ordered cortex on 1/10 so hopefully this time I wait a year for a new modeler it’s worth it.

Also that experience tempered and prepared me for these kinds of disappointment and frustration so… thank you fractal? :see_no_evil:

Just got mail from Thomann with a new delivery estimate of 19 Februrary…

My Sweetwater rep just called yesterday and told me Jan 13-15… I feel as though that may be outdated intel, but fingers crossed!

Just to keep you guys pumped, I’ve exchanged a couple of messages with one of the beta testers and he assures me that the wait will be worthwhile and that the QC is like nothing he has ever used.

is anyone here looking to replace their Axe FX III Mark II wit the the QC?

I ask because I’m fairly new to this brave new digital audio world and assume the latest Fractal Audio flagship is the best of the best.

I have an axefx lll and it’s an amazing piece of gear, but I’m really looking forward to having the quad cortex. They both sound amazing (from what I’ve heard of the QC) and the user interface of the cortex looks a great deal easier to use. I have a feeling my 3 will be for sale shortly after my QC shows up.

thanks… my GAS is urging me to get something… NOW… but if I can wait I’ll get to see the original reactions from Tier 1 & 2 folks… and I’m sure there will be Axe FX II Mark II vs Neural DSP Quad Cortex videos with opinions in short order… the FM3 with an FC6 is roughly the same price of a QC… that’s another product I hear mentioned a lot.

Fractal stuff sounds sick but has a high learning curve. You can get going with just a few short videos but to even scratch the surface of what it’s capable of, you need to go to youtube university for quite a bit. If you have the time and means, go for it. I think it will raise the bar of what you come to expect from any modeler in many ways.

That said, been there done that, I have an ax8 all dialed in and the iii and fm3 are cool, but would just be a distraction / time soak knowing i’m getting a cortex and thoroughly giving it a shot no matter what. I already have amazing presets in plugins and the ax8 so getting one of the newer / more capable units doesn’t really appeal to me. In fact i had an fm3 and sold it.

The iii is a great piece of gear but the form factor is a huge turnoff, plus the cost with a matched floor pedal, i’m just not their target audience. The fm3 is a solid little unit but its overall lack of horsepower, footswitches, and knobs just didn’t do it for me at all. I like the ax8 better and plugged into a poweramp and cab at band volume, I’d be lying if I told you one sounded dramatically better than the other, so I could make the case to consider trying a used ax8 instead.
