Quad Cortex Development Update #57

Then I misunderstood. No problem, all good.

I appreciate it but still just ā€œsoonā€, I guess it will be around the time the new hardware is shipping since it will require that firmware anyway
also I looked inside the side vent of mine and it looks like ive got the old hardware :skull:

It would be great to get an update on making Cortex Control work as advertised.
There is a known bug where local backup on a Mac does not work. There are threads in the forum on this matter. I have offered to provide the developers with a Q/C image that works for local backup and a Q/C image that does not work for local backup. Just given an image that does not work, a developer should be able to trace the failure in a debugger. Neural support has been great, but it sounds like the developers are blowing their own support team. Neural needs to take care of existing customers and make sure that major features in their software actually work correctly. If there is some issue with fixing this bug, then Neural needs to acknowledge that – customers can be forgiving if they are not treated like mushrooms.

Yeah when compared to your AI search and a little digging on the seymour duncan website they do talk about the materials and the winding process and how it was tightly wound to try to mitigate the need to wax potting due to loose coils. Its definitely not a quad issue though. I tried my older processor and it does the same thing with all the other guitars but it has a fixed signal chain and the noise reduction comes after a certain point. But if i turn the gate off on that same effect with all the guitars. I also went back into my quad after that and decided to just try the factory presets. And I think a lot of the noise Ive heard is largely due to how I set up the sounds which in hindsight are way too bright and trebly. And even when using a high gain preset that I had not tweaked that i was happy with the thing was silent. So I am now fully accepting that its a me problem. Im going to go back through my presets and turn off certain effects and see if any of them are introducing high end frequencies that i need to maybe back off my presence and treble more than I would on a dry amp.

Hey man. Dont worry about the internals. I brought it up because I thought it was worthy of noting because of how different it was. My language implied that one may be better than the other. That remains to be seen.

We know for sure that more units of the old design have failed than the new ones. But that is logical due to there being a vastly larger sample size of units out there in which to have problems.

The new ones like mine havent been available long enough for them to be used enough to determine long term reliability. Albeit if a component does fail their is no doubt swapping a board and general repairs overall would be easier and quicker thus cheaper.

But I apparently cant count. I thought it only had a 1 year warranty but its 3. So if you are within that range and are having any issues, Id send a support ticket. If you are out of warranty and have not had any issues you are not by any means sitting on a ticking time bomb. Are their known issues? Yeah. But thats with ANYTHING.

For me this is the only question I think that should be addressed in a formal way. Due to hardware variance, I think that it would be great for everyone to have assurances that the units will remain serviceable regardless of the revision and date of manufacture. But I dont think this should have to be something that each individual quad user should have to send a support message on to ask about it. We know there are differences. But I think it should be neural let everyone know that all is well and that the units will be serviceable regardless of the date of manufacture. And hopefully anyone out of warranty wont have to spend the amount of money to buy a new one to repair their old one if components and the labor costs factor in. Because nothing is worse than having a piece of gear and having it break after the warranty only to find you cant even get parts for it anymore and you have to find a donor for parts.

The new Neural DSP Mantra vocal plugin is released. Just like with the Nano Cortex, a lot of users are wondering if this is part of the

They will say, no it’s different teams, no working force has been taken from Quad Cortex development, but the sour feeling in the community is very present.
A feeling that Neural doesn’t seem to give the Quad Cortex any priority anymore, even though they were leading the race in the hardware modelers (against huge players like Kemper, Fractal, Fender, Lines, etc!).
I see more and more Quad Cortex users saying things like: ā€œthis is a sinking ship, Neural just doesn’t care about their community. They already have our money and they realized they can break promises and get away with it easily. They are diversifying their business and releasing new hardware and software to make new money, because they do make enough money with the Quad Cortex.ā€

Well let me tell you, I don’t want this to be true. I want Neural to look into this forum, realize what an amazing community they have, enable community driven development, look at the sheer number of amazing development feature requests and make the Quad Cortex as outstanding as imagined!

I believe it’s by having an amazing product checking boxes and dreams of the community that you keep an amazing reputation and thus make more money, not by releasing mediocre new things and ignoring the most wished for quality of life updates and feature requests of the community…

See for yourselves:

Was thinking the same yesterday… And wondering about the release of this plugin… Instead of making more Plugins compatible with the quad

Neural is quite an introvert company that does not really respect their clients. They care about their crazy idea that everyone needs plugins and of course the money that was supposed to pour in. Well, I’m not everyone and I know many of you are also not. Give us the ’ Vulgar Display of Power’ you promised. Please speed up development of wet effects, better (non clipping) amps and distortion and more of that. And most of all, start acting on all the feedback you receive in these threads.

Now we have Mantra which looks great!
However it’s yet again something new out whilst the QC languishes on the side lines, coming from Fractal because I genuinely feel the QC sounds better and the UI is way better…however the updates are absolutely rubbish….it seems the are not nearly often enough. This in itself creates a bad vibe and users feeling forgotten or worse dismissed…like screw it we already have your money.
So to summarise More updates, More often and more content….nobody wants another compressor.

PS can we have a decent amp model of Orange Rockerverb and BognerHelios Eclipse.

Yes Mantra looks cool and maybe the experience of it will benefit to the QC as it is supposed to welcome more singer content.

+1 for Orange amp models would love to have also a great Cornford head and Cab sim, which is a beast and not often modeled or also signature amps (was cool to have the petrucci so Koch the greg, Marshall YJM, Randall Nuno etc etc… Miss great LANEY sims too…)

Bogner Helios is planned for 2032.
Bogner XTC for 2049 archetype bladerunner

I am wondering how much time is left for 3.1.1. release when it’s planned to deliver new QCs in August only with 3.2.?

My impression is that a lot is pre announced, like the compatibility of plugins for QC but not delivered in a meaningful period of time. One of the reasons why I bought the QC is the outlook getting the Nolly plugin on the QC.

But since the announcement, nothing happened.

I also own an FM3 for which I get regular promised updates on time.

The big advantage of the QC comparing to Axe FX is, from my point of view, a much better UX. But disappointing the users because of not delivered updates will worsen the reputation…

I don’t believe we’ve had an update since November of 2024

For a flagship modeler. That is just ridiculous. Period

Mantra first :joy:

Easier to earn money with mew things than updating olds..

What is bothering me is that with 3.1.1 and 3.2, I see nothing really exciting (maybe i miss something) and without surprises i’m more waiting for the 3.3 or whatever they come with next.

So when… ?

If no surprises in previous updates AND a thin and distant 3.3 update, i would lower my expectations and confidence (believe me i still have it but a little bit less each month that passes) in the QC improvements that matches what was teased in the begining with a big waste feeling.

Had exactly same thoughts….

Nano Cortex, the new voice modeler…

If nothing happens in the next couple of months I am thinking about selling the QC. Why should annoy myself keeping it.

Same thoughts here. I’m new in the Neural World but looking to the new Helix Stadium a test would be an idea. Customer support from Line 6 always is one of the best..

At this rate for the next 5 years 90% of the updates will be paid DLC (plugins) with the smallest drip-feed of fixes and free content. I’m out on Neural.

I’ve had these thought several times over the last 4 years. Even sold the QC once. Only to buy another after 4 months without it. Now I own two of them…

I too would love some additional features and updates but for me, there’s still nothing else I’d rather play currently.

And to be honest, I haven’t exhausted the exploration of what can be done with it currently so I tell myself to be patient and play the guitar. It’s still the most inspiring piece of gear I’ve ever had (I’ve owned a Hx stomp, FM9, helix native, Strymon iridium, Friedman IRX… never wanted to fuss with Tonex…and I keep coming back to the QC).

Helix stadium is enticing but until I hear how Proxy sounds (their capture tech) and how it’s rolled out I’m hesitant to shell out the money.
