Quad Cortex Development Update #57

This is indeed true but I also bought it expecting to get more of the plugins running on it.

And it’s also about what you get for the price. The AXE offers more sound quality in comparison but with less UX quality.

I love my QC, but someone in management missed the grad school lecture on the Disney concept of “underpromise and overdeliver”.

Just super weird that the nano is getting big development and the QC is not. This company is just so bizarre

Another fake sorry, now disappear for a few more months

I dont think the quad sounds bad. I think what sounds best really depends on the user. But I ended up selling the QC. Ate the plugins. I do have a stadium on preorder. I will see how that goes. If its not what I need Ill get something else. Right now, there are so many good alternatives that its really a matter of if you are a ford guy, german car guy, or italian sports car guy. There is something for everyone. But Ive gone through too much BS with this company to buy another quad.

They dont have their house in order or their priorities straight. And no they dont care. They have my quad down as a unit sold. And people buy quads every single day. There is no reason to fully feed a community willing to live on scraps.

This whole 3.1.1 update needs to be done just so the units that are being made in the next few days can fully support the new codec. This will make 3 separate distinct units. The old style, new archetecture - ess codec and the third with the codec.

They announced the codec because they had to. But reading into past issue about not connecting to wifi and to use your cell phone as a hot spot to connect to internet is BS when the newer units have zero issues and have a 50ft range through walls and doors.

And every single time someone has an issue that everyone can benefit from the answer its a “send a support ticket” How about just be transparent? Thats the issue. My trust with the company through direct interaction and subsequent support was horrible. Even if I felt it was the best sounding unit out there the juice wasnt worth the squeeze. Nor the wait.

When you think about it from a software dependencies standpoint it makes perfect sense that the NC is easier to update.

every change on the QC needs to be reflected in the onboard UI and app and desktop where changes on the NC only need to be reflected in the app.

The NC is just a much simpler device to write software for by nature of its reduced capabilities.

I guess also the QC has way more routing, and actual amp models. The captures are just small files

Obviously the nano is “easier” to update. Really not my point thought. The QC is their flagship. Most (all?) companies spend time/effort/money developing their flagship products. I mean… as a company don’t you want you customers buying your most expensive product?

Anyways…FWIW - they are just a weird company the way they do things. But at this point - whatever. So much missed opportunity with the QC. You can almost sit back and laugh a bit, I guess

I’m at the same point. Not because i’m unhappy with updates - but my unit has that I/O Problem and there isn’t a real statement from neural why this happened.
I sent them a support ticket, the answer was “send a video of the problem, we’ll archive the ticket meanwhile..”

I told them in my mail, that it happens sporadically but it’s crucial that a unit like that, HAVE to work in general.

Now i have to send it back to thomann, i see what happens (if i get a complete new one, or they repair something).

I have some shows left this year, so i can’t bump my QC, as i invested a lot time getting my live sound right - but if the Stadium turns out being good sounding, i might get one.

I know there are multiple teams at Neural, a new plugin does not mean that they doesn’t work on the QC updates and i think if we weren’t on the forum, everything would be a bit less tragic. But it is what it is - tbh for me it feels like the QC will be an EoL device sooner than later for some reason.. idk  (not like it will be obsolete in 5 years, more like updates will happen once a year without any cool additions to it and fixing QoL features).

Any news on how the beta went?

In the meantime we got a big update for the nano. A complete new plugin and a hotfix for the plugin.

Nothing new.

3.1.1 in the “final stages to prepare for release" since almost 4 weeks. And 3.2.0 “close to completion" since almost 4 weeks.

I do not even expect progress or communication anymore, totally disillusioned.

But the new ess codec needs the update…..

Realistically it’s 3.2 that people will want for the QC. 3.1.1 is only really for the new codec with the brand new hardware for the QC, and not really any sort of actual update for existing users to care about. So assuming 3.2 won’t even happen for a while if they can’t even implement 3.1.1 months behind schedule

And 3.2 has some Plugins and a click, as far as we know…

The Nano Update is great and I tried the Mantra-Plugin, which is really good, but the QC feels a little left behind. 3.1 was in November and if it continues in the tempo, there will be not much more in one year that 3 plugins and a click.

But for my understanding the ess codec need first the 3.1.1 update that’s missing for some time. And yes we all wait for 3.2….

Yes, I’m just saying 3.1.1 is really only for the codec. It doesn’t seem to have any actual updates that people want for actual features. It’s mainly to make the newest hardware compatible with the existing OS. If we can’t even reach that step, then who knows how long it’ll be for 3.2 which has features people want + features they announced more than a year ago at this point

There’s some other minor things in 3.1.1

  • A Live Tuner now displays in Gig View.

  • Expanded LED brightness settings.

  • Previous/Next navigation in the Scene Editor.

But that does not invalidate your statement, nothing in 3.1.1 that we really hold our breath for.

I’m only waiting for it because it seems there will be no 3.2 without 3.1.1 first.

I prefer the OG version with the cooler quote on the circuit board. That one is probably collectable! As an electrical engineer with a lot of experience in tech hardware products I can tell you that the appearance has nothing to do with the function. They probably both function the same. The second one is likely lower cost to manufacture so higher margin for them. I think I remember they didn’t use a contract manufacturer initially thus the garage workshop style design.

One can assume any of the nano updates not yet available on the QC will likely be tied into the 3.1 or 3.2 updates, especially if there is a GUI element in the app corresponding to it.

it’s pretty easy to understand a roadmap that falls behind should not limit the releases on adjacent products that are well tested and ready for consumer

if anything it’s clear the QC roadmap is bloated and difficult to keep up to date compared to the leaner approach to plug ins snd the nano cortex.
