USB not working

I recently purchased a Quad Cortex. Everything was working perfectly fine for the first few days (except for the classic grounding noise), but during the second week, Cortex Control started malfunctioning. I had to restart it to sync with the QC. Then, a few days ago, Cortex Control stopped recognizing the Quad Cortex altogether. I have the latest QC firmware update installed, and I’ve also downloaded the latest QC driver for Windows. Simply put, the operating system no longer recognizes the unity in any way. I suspect it’s a problem with the QC’s USB output, and I’ve tried contacting Neural DSP, but I’m not getting any response from them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

When did you email support? And did you download the current Cortex Control?

First of all. Thanks for the attention

I sent an email to Neural four days ago, and I’m starting to get concerned because I’ve previously reached out to them with questions and they’ve always responded promptly.

Yes, i downloaded the current Cortex Control and the Windows driver.

If you don’t hear back by Monday, DM your contact details and I’ll escalate to support for you. Have you tried using an alternate USB cable/port? Lastly, are you using the OEM power supply and or a USB hub? I would also suggest backing up the QC, perform a factory reset then test and restore your backup and test again.

Thanks for the support, my friend. Yes, I’ve already tried 1 USB cable, in addition to the original one that comes with the QC. I’m connecting directly to my computer’s USB port, without using a HUB. I’ve also already done a factory reset and it didn’t work. Thank you very much.

I’ve also tried to connect the QC to another PC and it didnt work.

Have you looked at the USB statistics in the Diagnostics section of the Device Options?
This might show you if it’s truly dead and in need of replacement

Thank you for your concern.

Is this when you are trying to get audio from, or send audio to the QC? If so, the QC is doing absolutely nothing, so maybe you are not using the right USB routing on your computer, or the QC’s USB is fried.

Thanks for the help, gnumarco

I used it for a few days with Cortex Control and also for a few days as an audio interface, and I was able to do the USB return routing without any issues. However, after a few days, my computer stopped recognizing the Quad Cortex.

Hello MP_Mod.

I didn’t receive a response from Neural via email. Can you please tell me how I can proceed? I’ll outline all the events here to make it easier:

1 - My PC stopped recognizing the Quad Cortex after several days of perfect operation with Cortex Control and also as an audio interface.

2 - I don’t use a USB hub. I connect it directly to the PC’s USB port.

3 - I only use the original QC power supply.

4 - I’ve already tested with two other USB cables and they didn’t work either.

5 - I’ve also tested connecting the QC to another computer, which also didn’t recognize the unit.

6 - Im using the current firmware version, the current Cortex Control version and the newest windows driver

7 - I’ve already done factory reset

Thanks

I have struggled with this (well known) issue many times.

In my experience it is not the usb cable. Steps to try

Shut down CC
On the QC open downloads and press the sync button at the top making sure that the QC has an internet connection
Shut down the QC
Open CC
Power up the QC

I have had to do this a couple times to get it going before. I think it’s some sort of sync issue between the QC and CC.

Hey Rodh, thanks for the help. I just tried, but in my case, it didn’t work out. It seems I actually have a case of a burned-out USB. Thanks!

Yeah - one thing to check for sure is that your USB is actually showing up on your PC. On a Mac you can do that with the System Report. Not sure on a PC.

Typically device manager on PC will give you control over USB connected components
