Qc software update via cortex control

WIFI on the QC is shit, you have to be literally inches away from your router just to make it work, is there a way to just update the QC’s software via the new cortex control. this really annoys me a bunch. all my other devices are working fine with my wifi except the quad cortex.

I’ve found the wifi to be very poor too. I don’t use Control so can’t speak to that, but what works for me when doing updates / backups etc. is setting up a hotspot on my phone and then literally sitting the phone next to the QC.

(Specifically, on the right hand side of the unit - that gives me a better signal than the left. Which goes to show just how weak the wifi in the QC is…)

Ensure you are trying to use 2.4g and not 5g etc., also I have seen issues with using non-standard characters within your SSID can potentially result in connectivity issues with the QC. Lastly, I have seen that separating the 2.4/5g channels into unique channels may help if possible and see if your WiFi vendor has any firmware updates available that may help. I have been using the Ubiquity WiFi system for a few years without any issue where my main AP is probably 35-40’+ away from the QC etc.

I am also annoyed by the bad wifi in QC. And I have it 1 meter away from the router. I have to turn wifi on and off several times for QC to see it. But for some reason then the signal strength becomes high. The problem is finding the network.
But what I don’t understand is why I need wifi at all, if I am always connected to my computer via USB. And theoretically all updates and downloading of presets could be done through Quad Cortex Control program.

I’ve had to force my DSP to connect to a specific access point or else I run into the same problem. I think the case may be causing wifi issues or they’re using a very inferior wifi chipset. It makes no sense that you have to be literally within the same room as the access point to connect to wifi.

My QC is always about 16 feet away from my router and it connects with no problems

Sorry about your wifi issue. I wish I could help. But wifi has never been a problem for me. Have you contacted Neural to see if they can help you resolve this?

Thats a bummer. What about internet through usb?

My wifi knock on wood has been fine.

I had the same problem but worked out it was caused by my QC connecting to my router that was far away instead of the access point that was closer. This is not a QC issue but my wifi network set up because it is the network that determines the which router/access point to connect to, not the end device. Since resolving this, I have had no wifi issues. Although in saying this, the QC wifi signal strength is a bit low compared to other devices. But works absolutely fine when about 5m from my access point.
So I am confident the QC unit is fine and these few users with issues need to do some more investigating or get help.

I agree the WiFi is the only issue on the unit that needs improvements. When I know I am going to need the WiFi, I will take it to the room my router is in, do what I need to do, then take it back to my guitar room. I shouldn’t have to do that, but it is what it is. Hopefully a software update can fix it?

The one thing that has worked for me is to use my phone as a hot spot. The quad cortex links to it right away, and the connection is stable enough to do time consuming updates. I almost returned my QC thinking it was defective because of the terrible wifi setup.

Never had any issues with the QC internet connection. I do however use the QC in reasonable proximity to a home WiFi booster. I love the fact that the QC can be used totally standalone and I don’t have to connect it to a PC etc. A major advantage over competitors products.

I’ve been struggling with this since I got the QC. My wifi is setup to use both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz on a single SSID, so in theory it should work. But it rarely did. Just to experiment, I created a new SSID that broadcast only 2.4Ghz. The QC connected without problem and finally updated.

Separating the channels for both 2.4/5 seems to be the key for successful connection for many.

I have my QC in a different room than my router on the other side of the house and I don’t have a problem at all. I did when I very first got the unit but since then it’s worked flawlessly, even still I’d rather be able to do it from inside Cortex Control.

I tried creating a new SSID on 2.4Ghz alone, without luck. :frowning:

do you do that on the QC? how do you do that?

would you happen to know what bandwidth your wifi is using?

Three rooms of distance here, no problems
