Keep it positive and be patient

There is an entire book dedicated to the concepts of difficulties with delayed development schedules called the ‘Mythical Man-Month’ The Mythical Man-Month - Wikipedia – it’s often quoted although few devs actually read it I hear; the point is that it’s more complicate than one would imagine from the outside. It’s easy to over-promise or bite off more than one can chew when it comes to software development.

I’m quite familiar with delayed development…my own.

If NDSP had the ability to make all of complaints go away and entice new customers by completing the ever-growing list of requests (demands) tomorrow, why wouldn’t they? I’m sure they’ve had more than their fair share of ohshits and WTFs. The hardware world is very different from the plugin world.

Again, not discounting other users frustrations (nor my own).

I have had mine for about 4 months. The other day I decided I wanted to build a Pedal Board. I only play at church. So my QC will most likely stay on my desk, and my pedal board will be my primary setup at church. I like the QC but don’t love it. It has nothing to do with the sound. I find myself wanting the tangibility of the knobs on the pedals.

So the swobs (switch/knobs) on the QC don’t do it for you? It is different than separate pedals but the QC takes it closer to the “real world” experience than any other processor I’ve used before.

Hi Pete,
Always great to connect with you here. Since the time that I posted that I found out that the main pedal I wanted to get sold out quickly… It was the newest Andy Timmons/Keeley distortion pedal. So I told my guy to hold off on the whole thing.

I really need to spend some time zeroing in on the sound I want. In all fairness I have barely scratched the surface of what the QC does. So I just saved a bunch of money by not buying anything more. I only play at church. It does so much more than I need. So to answer your question about the “swobs”… I have to be honest and say I have not really tweaked it much at all. So I am going to make a point of interacting with the unit more. Like I had said, I am very happy with the sound. I think I will like it more when I interact with it more. Not rocket science there.

I think one of the issues I am having is that I tend to just find a preset someone like Worship Tutorials put together and run with it. I am using their capture of a 63 Bassman setup for single coils. I think I need to make some of my own presets and possibly tweak things a bit more to my liking. That will be good on many levels.

please never forget that forums are a minority. so many developers seem to forget that a very vocal majority on a forum can easily be very much a minority compared to the total user base, and then ruin their product trying to please the un-silent forum-majority.

Thanks, same here, Brian.

To me, one of the biggest attributes of the QC is the user interface. Just grabbing a swob (instead of scrolling through menus, parameters and using a single encoder) makes adjusting presets so much faster and more intuitive. Don’t be thrown off by the awkward swab-to-screen relationship on the speaker page (supposed to be fixed in a later OS update). Don’t be afraid to tweak those stock and 3rd party presets as they were set up using someone else’s guitar, fingers and taste and can usually be adjusted to work better for you. You can always save your modified preset separately from the original so you can switch back and forth for comparison. Just back up often as you go. I’d also recommend building some of your own presets and scenes from scratch as there’s no better way to get an overview of the QCs capabilities and it will help you understand how to tweak someone elses to your liking, too. You may find some tones you didn’t even know you liked.

Glad it’s working for you!

Great advice my friend. I’ll take it! Yes, what’s the worst that could happen? I find a new tone I didn’t even know I was missing! Have a great day brother.

Very good point, D.C. NDSP seems to be doing okay, in spite of the frustrated and vocal folks. The QC is still one of the best selling +$1000 units out there. They must be doing somethings right.

I’m always happy to provide unsolicited advice. :joy: You have a great day too, brotherman!

Not to sound like a QC fan-boy (though I am) but I want to throw in my 2-cents about posting on the forum: I’ve noticed some recent posts that come off as a little self-righteous and/or indignant. ~~~ My post was not about judging other forum users. >Blockquote

Pot - Kettle?

I guess I missed some of NDSPs early statements.

You most certainly did… And being frustrated by this is NOT the customer’s fault either.

Did they give up on the monthly dev updates?

I’'m guessing the last three QC news updates are seen as covering everything they have been working on for now.
A lot (if not all) of that will have been a “drop everything and work on this” situation, as it should be.

I guess they will hopefully go back to ‘normal updates’ at the end of this month.

It’s been 42 days since the last development update and NDSP mentioning a beta of Cortex Control.
And then there was silence.
Not even n official screenshot of the software.

I’m no expert, but I don’t think this is how communication works or trust is build.

At least we got another archetype.

Probably some basic short term economics driving priorities. Make plugin → get immediate revenue. Make QC enhancements → not so much, esp if the device is selling well as is.

them selling units is not an argument, they have major flaws and don´t address them. and compared to the other modelers they are absolutely behind, not only with the released product but with their updates.
The fact that neural doesn´t listen to their user base and even though i´m sure they want CAN´T meet what THEY promised and what users want. Noone that paid 2k for a unit wants to be unhappy about it. We all just want the best quality for the money and neural fails at that.
A lot of people on this thread are like “oh well i´ve waited years for the editor but whatever”
Is that how you act if you order food and it gets there cold or half eaten? If you buy a car and it has no stereo? It´s ridiculous how passive a lot of people are and how unwilling they are to get what they payed for

Every cortex is worth 10 plugins sold.
Maybe they should make it more attractive to sell more of them.

Good point Steve. That may be the case but I hope not.

plugins are virtual goods, they have no manufacturing or shipping and handling costs, no guarantees etc. if they want money and plugins it´s fine, but it´s ridiculous how they get into the stomp market being so behind their competition.
even if they sell because they have a nice interface and people get it for christmas and it works fine, they are being mediocre and showing a lack of work ethic which has only been proven over and over with their lack of communication and now the security leaks etc etc etc etc

I’m still waiting for the Archetype: Pickin’ Pete plugin.
