Does anyone love bass players more than NDSP does?

I submit that no, no one does. I think Line 6 comes close, since they have a pretty beefy bass-specific assortment, but man. As a bass player, I’m blown away by how great the QC is for bass. I love that the pitch shifter (and Transpose) work so well for bass - there are tons of amps, pedals, and captures for bass gear, too. I was initially impressed by the Parallax and Darkglass plugins, and when they come to QC, no other modern modeler will come close.

Meanwhile, Fractal only has a handful of bass-specific stuff and anytime someone has a bass-related requests, it’s met with a chorus of suggestions of how to get the sound the person is looking for with available gear. Fine; that’s great that it’s possible, but NDSP makes it effortless; hell, I was up and running and jamming with my band with the first bass preset I came across in the QC in less than 5 minutes after opening the Sweetater box. I couldn’t believe how many great and useful bass presets the QC comes loaded with.

I get that bassists in general have less of a need for too much fancy stuff and there are only so many practical or usable sounds for bass in a band context, but it’s nice to see these companies, NDSP above all, really catering to not only our needs, but our wants as well.

So; shout out to NDSP for taking care of us bassists!

Yeah, since this is finally a suitable thread for my “concern” and I’m really deeply satisfied with the features and sounds offered, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for this incredibly good device. This device is so inspiring to me that it is currently enough for three projects. Thank you so very much for integrating the plug-ins and for the ongoing support. Keep up the good work. Thank you NDSP and thank you community for all the progressive input!

Yep; it’s the main workhorse for two of my professional projects (where I play bass) in addition to just personal enjoyment playing guitar at home! Love this thing. I’ve waited THREE YEARS to (re)buy this device and it’s finally where I wanted it to be in the beginning (primarily PCOM), although I think it still needs some work in the MIDI versatility department - regardless, I just couldn’t believe how much it offered for bass!

Hm, not arguing that the QC isn’t a great piece of hardware. But I would say most other brands offer more for bass players. The QC has no synth block, no OC2 or similar octave pedals, no multi compressor, very few amps and cabs, and there hasn’t been a addition to them since the release of the QC.
In fact I can’t think of anything that the QC offers specifically for bass that the other big brands don’t.
Also capturing doesn’t work as great for bass IMO, because the QC can’t capture compression. Which is a big part of bass tones (best example: Parallax).

There is a feature request thread for more bass stuff here:

Wow… First I thought the Title was sarcastic.
Because It is.
Every other modeler has way more Bass love than NDSP.
Thats why we have 18 Plugins for Guitar and 2 for Bass.
Thats why we have about 81 Amp Models for Guitar and 13 for Bass (where 2 are unusable and 4 which sounds almost the same.
23 Drives vs. 5…

Do we need more? Not really. The QC is so good, that you can get really really good sounds with these few devices, + the EQ is so good, you can use guitar stuff for bass too.

Do we want more Bass stuff? Hell yeah. Would love to have a decent Bass Fuzz, Alpha Omega, MDB, Pork & Pickle, Amps like a Fender Bassman, Aguilar, Orange, but not as captures.

Well, coming from the Kemper, i must say that the QC is better for bass players, more amps (off course) and better bass response in general (imo).

That being said, i really hope more things for bass !! (and guitars and vocals and the synth block and vocoder ? :stuck_out_tongue:)

It’s nice to hear some positive comments from the bass camp. I wish I could get our bass player to be open to modeling but he’s staunch old-school guy. We’ve been lugging his Mesa Buster head (200w all tube) and 2-10 cab around since the beginning. He’s had to admit that he’s impressed with the tones from my QC but he’s still stuck in “real tube” land. Maybe, some day…

With his high pain and stubbornness thresholds, chances are thin. He makes fun of me for having “too many knobs”. He’s a caveman with a 64" P-bass.

Tell him he’s on his own with his gear from now on

IMO the best way to convince people like him is to force them to do a blind test. And depending on his needs there are quite a few of good alternatives to the QC. Like a Darkglass Ultra Preamp. Costs way less then the QC and is even analog except for the IR.

Good suggestions but I don’t have the heart to watch him injure himself. At least his cab has two handles. :man_shrugging::laughing:

I see through the bald-faced transparent scheme by some users on this topic to shame NDSP into providing more options for bass players. An insidious strategy. But I say “Nay! Guitar-oriented content full speed ahead”. Maybe a few bass & vocal effects when there’s some development down time. This is a guitar processor dammit! Admittedly made by, originally, a bass pedal company  You bass players can wait for Neural’s ‘QC Bass’ version to be released (not a thing(yet?), don’t wanna start any rumors).

Just kiddin’, tongue in cheek leg-pulling, all in good fun. Much respect to my bass playing brothers and sisters. If Stanley Clarke or the ghost of Jaco Pastorius get on the forum and request additional bass development, I’ll reconsider. Until then… more guitar stuff. Hope you players in the lower register get at least some of what you want before that happens though. :slightly_smiling_face:
