After I had completed my purchase, I saw there have only been two plugins ported, and niether one of them one of the bass plugins. Saw the Transpose function (even watched the official video) but now I’m reading that it’s trash and monophonic - I thought it was the transpose function from the plugins, which is stellar, but I guess I was wrong.
Do we have any sort of a timeline for the rest of the plugins (other than the proverbial “soon”)? Do we know if they’re working on porting the plugins’ Transpose function?
I’ve been gigging with my HX Stomp because my Fractal gear still can’t do decent pitch-shifting for cleans, so I thought this unit was finally where I wanted it to be, but it looks like it’s still not quite there.
Not sure where to go from here. Do I cancel the order? Do I try it out myself and potentially just return it (again)? Or maybe it’ll be worth hanging on for a few weeks/months to see if Petrucci, Rabea, Darkglass, or Parallax get ported…
how long ago did you own the QC? It’s not ‘radically’ different these days, just some added functionality here and there. If you didn’t like it before, it’s not likely you’ll change your mind now.
They were very clear on all the plugin compatibility info, that’s one area they’ve really improved in - communicating. That said, timelines are rarely given. They might share more info on the ETA of other plugins, but as of now we don’t really know.
My first one was ordered in May of 2021, so it’s been a minute. I wasn’t playing bass in the band then, though, and I was doing some pretty complicated things via MIDI with my Fractal gear. My MIDI needs and tonal needs are significantly less complex these days, so as long as the Transpose works well and as long as the plugins I need on it are on the horizon, I think it’ll do just fine. I was looking at the MIDI implementation chart and I think it’ll be more than enough for my current needs.
As far as I know, the transpose function is the one from the plugins, which is also monophonic according to some previous info from NDSP.
But I don’t really use it so maybe some of the others here can confirm that it’s the same transpose as in the plugins.
The Transpose is NOT monophonic. It is most definitely polyphonic. Not sure who’s telling you this or why people are saying that but I use it and have used the Pitch shift block a lot instead of down tuning or using a capo and it’s definitely polyphonic.
It may be that someone doesn’t know the definition of monophonic which is that it’s single-voiced meaning you can only play one note at a time vs polyphonic which allows for full chords (aka multiple notes) to be played simultaneously.
On the plugins, it’s awesome. That’s why I was hoping it would have been ported. In fact, maybe it was, and maybe their “monophonic” pitch shifting is as good or better than others’ polyphonic.
I remember using the HX’s “Simple Pitch” for polyphonic pitch shifting. Didn’t sound great for cleans or complex chords, but sounded just fine for rock and roll. It’s still my go-to pitch shifter for bass on the HX.
Doesn’t matter; I was using it for poly pitch shifting before I ever knew the difference. It’s still a better monophonic shifter for bass than anything else I’ve tried
Yeah, the Poly Capo is decent; but the problem is that I need a rock-solid mono pitch-shifter that, so far, only the Drop pedal and the Helix’s Simple Pitch (and probably Poly Capo) have been able to provide. The Fractal pitch-shifter warbles too much and doesn’t track bass too well. The Simple Pitch is just magic. Anyway, I think I’m getting myself worked up too much - probably just because it was such a large purchase.
And frankly, I haven’t heard/read much about the QC’s pitch-shifter for bass, so I’m pretty much going into this blind. I could be blown away or disappointed once again. Should find out today…
It’s probably fine on bass, esp since the lines Pete Thorn used in his video are single note runs with a lot of distortion. Just wish Transpose worked better with actual chords. It’s a step in the right direction for sure, but hard when it can’t match the Digitech Drop or Poly Capo
