Add toe-switch to an inexpensive expression pedal like M-Audio or Moog EP-3

I want to be able to switch my expression pedal between, for example, controlling the wah, to controlling the volume. The simplest approach is to have an expression pedal with two jacks, both of which plug into the QC’s expression jacks (EXP 1 & EXP 2). One jack is for the pedal sweep and the other uses the toe-switch to control the bypass state of (in this example) the wah and volume blocks. No doubt already common knowledge to many players here.

Think I am going to try and mod my M-Audio expression pedal (pedal cost was about $20) and add a toe-switch. The parts required apparently only cost a few dollars. A retrofit is required because, similar to many of the less expensive expression pedals, the M-Audio only has the jack for the expression pedal sweep. Nothing to control block bypass.

I found this video which does provide some guidance on how to go about this. If anyone knows of any others or gets a chance to post one up (particularly for the M-Audio) that would be very helpful.

Seems like a worthwhile project to retrofit/enhance an inexpensive expression pedal like the M-Audio that you may have laying around, as I do. Given the low prices of these budget pedals, maybe even consider buying one if you don’t. The Mission Engineering SP1-ND pedal, great and no-hassle as it is, is currently a not inconsequential $159.

Anyway, will try and report back if and when I get around to attempting this. Might just opt for the more expensive but proven and robust Mission Engineering pedal but I am sorely tempted to do the mod to my budget pedal instead. This is not rocket science and a very low cost of entry.
