WiFi help needed

This is good advice but honestly, I haven’t had to do this. I now mainly use my iPhone as a hotspot placed to the left of the QC and at the same level. That usually gives me full bars.

Which mobile carrier do you use?

According to T-Mobile, I cannot use my iPhone as a hotspot for the Quad Cortex (among many other devices)

The carrier shouldn’t / can’t prevent you from doing so. Just enable the Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone and log into this new wi-fi network with your QC / other devices.

regarding the good old Wi-Fi connection problems a lot of people do have: I just found out that the QC does NOT work with WPA3 (encryption standard) and/or does not work when the router has Protected Management Frames (PMF) enabled. So everyone who can’t connect / can’t obtain an IP address try setting your 2,4ghz wifi to WPA2 (WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode did also not work because that needs PMF to be enabled) and disabling PMF (my Asus router lists three options “Disabled”, “Cabable” and “Required” and only “Disabled” worked for the QC). I will write a Mail to support about that too, because I think it’s pretty bad for a device not that old to not support the latest security standards. In theory it should be possible that WPA3 / PMF support can be added by a software / firmware update. And if there is no such firmware available it should at least be stated in the manual to avoid frustration, because I guess that quiet a few newer routers/APs get shipped with those settings enabled by default.

apparently DNS servers can also make a difference. I’ve heard of users having to change theirs and then their issues were solved.

That’s excellent information and thanks for sharing!

Well, apparently, the portion of the T-Mobile website I read was outdated

I tried it again and was able to connect via hotspot

However, unless I stay connected to the hotspot, I cannot make any backups (even though I am always connected to my Mac via USB)
