Which noise gate are you using?

I just discovered the side-chaining available in the Adaptive gate .
Currently i’m using Adaptive gate without S/C in front of the amp.
I will try asap the S /C after the amp.

What is your experience with noise gate in the QC and feedback. Prefered one?

The input block gate/noise reduction is also an option so it is difficult to guess wich one is most effective.

I’m using High gain amp EVH red 6L6 without a boost and i’m pretty satisfied with Adaptive gate so far, but some new Intel would be great.

Thanks

Adaptive gate with S/C after the amp is the way to go. If you want to clean up some hand noise, etc you can either add the input gate or another gate before the amp.

A good idea is to automate the gate to change with certain scenes. I don’t mind adaptive gate with S/C being on during cleans sometimes, but will turn off any other stronger gates when using a clean amp. The gate after the amp is awesome to cut out amp hiss (yes even for cleans).

I think the adaptive gate could be used for specific purposes but it doesn’t suit me for my playing. I just use a regular gate after the amp. I like to roll down the volume of my guitar so any gate before the amp tends to cut off the signal. For metal with abrupt stops, gates before the amp or with the activator before the amp would work great. Also, I set the gate at the lowest possible level, turning my volume down on the guitar and ensuring I won’t get drop outs. I would say I give the gates in the QC a C+. They are workable, but not the best I have tried.

It was a sigh of relief when sidechaining got included in the QC. I use adaptive gate after high gain blocks and sidechain to the input, just like you’re describing. Works great for me.
