Noise Gate block placement and config?

I use my quad cortex into a tube poweramp and a 4x12 cabinet. at rehearsal volumes, I get a lot of feedback, so I need to place a noisegate block somewhere. within QC, I also use a tubescreamer block. after that, I use a capture of a peavey blockletter preamp. where should I put the noise gate block?

the attached screenshots show my current 2 gate setup. it works in terms of gating even when playing staccato chugs, but I feel that my pinch harmonics get cut off quite a lot.

attached is the gate AFTER the tubescreamer block

I might try just one side chain gate placed after the amp but linked to the input.

Be aware that you have the gate enabled inside the Input block, which is represented by the yellow line above “In 1”. If you are placing a second gate with different thresholds or at a different point in the chain, you may get some unwanted interaction between the two gates.

actually the noise reduction on input is set to 0%, as it wasn’t helping much

Even at 0% it’s still trying to clamp down if it’s on. I’d try tapping the power button to completely defeat it and use just the one side chain gate after the amp but linked to the input.

Ok, the best solution I came up with is placing an adaptive gate (with source set to Input 1) between the Drive block and the pre-amp capture block, as seen in the attached screenshot. works well.
all the other gates (including the input gate) were removed/disabled.

I prefer putting the adaptive gate s/c after the amp (while still having the side chain for the guitar input. That way the amp hiss is gated as well

I don’t really get preamp hiss - it’s probably because the preamp is a capture, and with my signal chain (guitar → QC → fx return) it’s silent.

Nice! Yeah, I notice a lot of hiss with the higher gain amp models (totally normal) so I try to reduce that for those. Usually I’ll turn off the gate for cleans (so makes sense if the preamp capture is quiet). Love the ability to side chain the gate
