Yes, fortunately I do not really do any recording and it was not a critical situation. My biggest relief is that I am pretty sure that my QC unit itself is not faulty. I do worry a bit about how much of a hassle it would be if the unit fails… and the procedure for getting it fixed. But it’s not broke, so we don’t need to fix it! I will be keeping an eye out for what could possibly be causing the issue. You hit the nail on the head when you said “so many variables.” It is truly mind boggling. God bless!

I had this same problem and support wasn’t able to help. Seems like some units just don’t work as a USB soundcard for whatever reason.
Just a thought but I had major issues recording my QC in GarageBand via USB, and couldn’t work out what was going on; in the end I discovered it was something to do with the Mic settings on my MacBook Pro; there’s a newish feature called Voice Isolation, and if you try to record when this is turned on, even via USB, it sounds absolutely awful, so it might be worth checking the mic is in Standard Mode
