Choppy computer audio via USB to QC?

Odd problem. I’m playing guitar through my QC and headphones. I want to play YouTube or Spotify from my Mac, so I plug in the USB and choose the QC as the output source. I immediately get choppy audio, as if it’s pausing and unpausing a couple times a second. If I’m watching a YouTube video, same thing; the video DOES pause and unpause constantly.

Note; the processed guitar signal sounds fine; no issues with that, just the choppy computer audio.

I’ve used multiple known-good USB cables to no avail.

Figured I’d check the hive mind before submitting a support ticket, as I can’t be the only one with this issue ever…

Really? No one? Okay. Guess I’ll email support

The QC is not a reliable interface, CorOs 3.0.0 made it even worse for me. You can write support but don’t expect any help.

The usual question is are you using a USB hub? Because the QC doesn’t like that.
The QC works perfectly fine with me as an interface when I use a DAW I’ve not used it with Youtube though.

Yeah, I do use a hub, so tonight I’ll see if that’s the problem. That’s what support asked me. Unfortunately, Macs don’t have a lot of USB ports, but I plug EVERYTHING into a 10-port hub, so maybe I can spare one built-in port for the QC.

The QC (and any other audio interface, really) needs its own input to the Mac. Hubs are bad news for audio.

The QC as an audio interface and regular audio playback–YouTube, etc.–works great for me.

Depends on the hub but I think the QC is to blame most of the time. Ihave used at least 20 audio-devices over many years on a few different hubs without any major problems on my Mac’s. The QC is the only one so far that makes problems.

I use a hub on my Mac w/ no issues, but it is self-powered by a ‘wall-wart.’

I have had trouble in the past with other interfaces, not the QC, being unable to pass audio from certain browsers or apps.

The Helix used to be recommended to be used with a direct USB connection as well, no hub. Believe I have seen similar recommendations for the Fractal gear as well. The QC is hardly alone in this respect.

It has been in my experience. I tested the Helix, the Tonex Pedal, a FM3 and for the past few days the HX Stomp on the same hub. No problems at all.

I’ve been having major problems with hum and other noise when plugging my QC in to my Mac to record recently. Never had issues before, could be the power supply in our house (old fashioned electrics, the place need a complete re-wire!) but as I said I’ve never had problems before

Every USB device tells you not to use a hub. I don’t have issues with my Helix or Fractal going through the hub.

Yeah, mine has the external power supply too. I’ll be testing tonight to see if directly connecting it helps.

YMMV but the fact still remains that many users of varying brands of modelers have had problems with USB audio ranging from issues with USB hubs, PC power plan USB timeouts, faulty cables, poorly written USB drivers, Mac version problems, outdated MB drivers, user error e.g. incorrect settings on DAW, etc…

I would be frustrated too though if all my other devices were working for USB audio and my QC wasn’t. Hope it gets resolved for you. There is a new firmware and CoCo version out today. Maybe it will help.

Not letting Neural off the hook, if the problem is on their side, they need to address it. Just wanted to point out that I have seen these USB audio problems for years now across multiple brands. It is not unique to the QC and seems to often impact some users but not others making it more difficult to track down. These issues can be very elusive. Good luck with this!

I was having issues getting my QC to keep stable buffer. Didnt matter what buffer size It was like the buffer would get out of sync and cause distortion. Itd happen randomly and often. What helped me was app called process lasso that gives you control over cpu and memory priority, power handling, power performance modes etc. Also if a dell product i believe dell tech hub was also causing issue. What kind of computer you using?

Mac mini. NDSP support was no help :frowning:

it just started again out of nowhere for me. didn’t update or change anything. anyone figure out a solution? i had finally had it working for a bout a month. really bummed and wasting time trying to get it back working.

Nope. Don’t bother contacting support either - completely useless. They’ll have you gather every version of every piece of anything connected to your PC, post a detailed video, and then still be unable to offer a workable suggestion. Just get a different interface and save yourself the frustration.

Hi mate, I’m a Mac user and I’m using a HUB and it doesn’t get along with QC. Can you tell me the make and model of your Hub?

Macally TriHub9 works for me:
