Absolutely! You would configure your signal chain as needed and when recording, you would use USB 1/2 for DI and USB 3/4 for processed signal within your DAW.
That’s great to hear. One more possibly unusual question: It looks like I’ll be waiting for the QC for another two or three weeks. In the meantime, I have an idea: can I record dry guitar tracks in Logic DAW—just the direct sound, straight from the guitar—and later, when I get the QC, reamp them? Is that an option?"
I’ve never done it but it should be as easy as assigning an unused lane’s input block to Input 1 and assign it’s output to whichever unused output you want for your dry signal. If you have blocks (such as a compressor) before your your amp/cab blocks, that you want to keep in your dry send, you can tap into that lane wherever you want and assign the tap to your “dry lane”. Again, I haven’t actually done this so don’t quote me. Hopefully, someone with wet/dry experience will chime in.
If you’re using the QC as your interface via USB, it’s fairly simple to re-amp from the DAW (& vice-versa). I do it pretty often.
You just have to change (or add) the Output of the Logic track you want to re-amp thru the QC to the appropriate channels. For convenience I usually make a template in both Logic and on the QC so it’s all preconfigured and i don’t have to remember how to set it up each time.
Happy to help you set it up if you like
People, this is wonderful information… thank you… I’m reading, but I’m curious about how to record a DI signal until I have the Quad Cortex – most instructions pertain to situations where someone already has the QC… So, can I record guitars directly through my audio interface, the MOTU M2? Should I use an additional interface in between – a DI unit or something similar? Or is it unnecessary? Just direct through MOTU?
