I’m new to Quad Cortex and just trying to work out connections for live use
I Shure In Ear Monitors when gigging, and on my Kemper Stage, in addition to running a connection to the FOH desk, I would also run a cable from the ‘Monitor Out’ of my Kemper to an input on the Shure IEM transmitter, and I’d then be able to control the volume of my guitar in the mix using the main volume wheel on the front of the unit (which had been set to control the monitor volume).
I want to replicate this on the Quad Cortex, but wanted to know - 1) which connection would I use to connect the QC to the Shure Transmitter (as there doesn’t seem to be anything labelled Monitor Out, and 2) If it would be possible to control my guitar volume in my IEM mix in the same way as I did previously, using the volume wheel on the front?
It really doesn’t matter. With the QC’s routing capability, you could use any of the six outputs or even the headphone jack, to feed FOH or your IEM. I assume you are running in mono so make sure your signal chain is summed to mono. If your monitor pack is set up for an unbalanced signal, outputs 3, 4 or one of the FX sends might be logistically easier for that purpose.
Thanks very much for that Pete - appreciate it, and yes am running in Mono. Will I still be able to have control of guitar volume in the mix using the volume wheel do you think? - not sure if you can assign that to be a ‘monitor’ volume’ or not…again sorry, i’m a newbie to the unit!
One thing to keep in mind is that the volume control is assigned to stereo pairs so you can’t assign it to control, say, output 1 and not output 2. It’s been a while since I set up my global routing but I believe this is still a limitation of volume control routing. With three output pairs available (plus headphones out), this shouldn’t be a problem for most people.
