New Quad Cortex owner here. I am kinda confused about a thing.
I use the QC as my interface. It is connected via TRS to my Kali In-5 studio monitors. Now I have seen and read that it is recommended to max out the master volume. Is that the way to do when you run it as a interface/direct into studio monitors? That would mean I have to reduce the volume on the monitors.
You can also set the global setting for the master volume so that it doesn’t control the outputs to your studio monitors. That sends unity gain to your monitors. You can then lower the volume of the preset, if necessary, via the amp or output block’s level control.
Not having the master volume control the output to your studio speakers also ensures a more consistent level sent to your studio speakers as you don’t have to worry where the master volume was set last time you recorded (was it all the way up? ). This is also how a lot of live players prefer the master volume set for their send to the FOH. That way you can control your monitor mix on stage without impacting the levels your soundperson is receiving at the board.
Ultimately up to you though. If you prefer to have more control over your studio speakers from the QC you can work out a compromise between the level on the QC and the level set on your speakers. The signal from the QC is good enough that you don’t have to run the master volume at ten if you don’t want to.
