I want to buy a Quad Cortex Mini, but I’m a bit worried about the built-in amplifiers. Technologically speaking, it’s undoubtedly the most advanced, but it has very few built-in amplifiers. Does anyone know if they’re having problems with this?
I’m not a fan of captures; it’s a very specific thing, not for me.
I use just the built in amps, and I only use 2 of them, all bases covered (PV505 and JC120) In the real world I use a Plexi, I find the 505 closer to it than the QC Plexi’s, and it’s gain structure goes from clean to filthy.
There are plenty of other flavours on board, you have no need to use captures.
Compare for yourself; they have the best technology but very few guitar and bass amplifiers. They don’t have the Triaxis, which, in my opinion, is one of the best.
Yeah, Fractal does have more, but they have the most of basically any other modeler because they are updating stuff from models they had on units from 15+ years ago haha. Also they just list each separate channel, so it seems like way more options. There are more amps, but you’re comparing it to the one modeler that has that many….
The other element to consider is that Fractal updates more frequently, but they change what every model sounds like during that process, so it’s very risky to maintain a similar sound if you’re ever updating the unit.
The QC lacks amplifiers? Hardly…. If you can’t get the job done with what QC already offers, then I don’t know what it is you’re “searching” for… The amp you might like, that QC may not have, probably sounds like another amp that QC does have. There aren’t many “original” amps designs out there these days and they’re all derived from something else anyways.
I don’t know if you’re speaking without knowledge or trying to defend the indefensible. Let me give you two examples: the Triaxis is unique, and nothing else sounds quite like it. It has the B3K, and no matter how much you use an equalizer, it doesn’t sound like the B7K. If you’re going to give your opinion, make sure it’s based on knowledge.
My opinion is based on my own knowledge, same as yours. If you don’t like the QC, or own one, then why even post this in the NDSP forums? You can go read documentation like everyone else to see what is offered. Opinions have been given. QC is not limiting based on the amp models it has. “Does anyone know if they’re having problems with this?” No. Question, answered. You keep responding negatively to everyone saying it doesn’t have what you want… so go elsewhere if that’s the case or use what it has, including captures.
Former Hotone Ampero II Stage user here…it looks like it had a bit more amps to choose from, but…they sounded the same (in their category), for example high gain ones like - EVH 5150, Fireball, Powerball, JCM800…you can’t tell apart one from another. So, the sheer number of amps isn’t really a meaningful indicator.
That’s still a thing that happens with Fractal. They update the algorithms (maybe they haven’t updated in a little, but they absolutely will update them again). I researched Fractal a lot before and have used a couple of their Axe Fx units in the past.
If you want a B7K, then Darkglass has the Anagram pedal. I would imagine that has everything you want for bass.
I’ve seen some people ask for the Triaxis, but that is a pretty niche amp. Mainly Dream Theater prog guys use it (which is fine), but not too surprised it isn’t in there. I guess Fractal is what you want if you need more amp models and deeper tweaking
I own Neural, Fractal, and Darkglass, so I know what I’m talking about. Neural has the best technology, the best screen, and the best handling, but they lack amplifiers; that’s all they have going for them. The Triaxis is the missing piece.
