Power supply issues?

I think I’m having problems with my Cioks Crux. Last night at rehearsal the sounds started stuttering and then the QC powered down for no reason and came back up. I then rebooted to be safe and it was fine for the rest of rehearsal. Now today I plugged it back in and it is stopping during boot, sometimes fully boots after a few stops, sometimes it does not fully boot and just stays dark screen. I am powering it now with the official QC power supply and it booted up normally. I have the Crux set to 12V and my other Cioks (which is the eventide version) seems to be working fine. No flashing lights and I only have a few other pedals hooked up. Any thoughts on what could be going on?

I don’t know but it sounds like the crux. I always used neural’s adapter. You can always email support@neuraldsp.com. Again, I’m just guessing. Good luck.

I truly feel like the Crux has messed up two QC’s on me. Could be coincidence, but my first one died after using a Crux a few times (before that it was the factory power supply). And then the replacement Sweetwater had sent me wouldn’t boot after about a year with using the Crux. Honestly considering an aftermarket power supply that has a higher amp rating and can use a normal IEC cable.

This is the power supply I use. 12V, 3.34A, 2.1mm, IEC cable input. I’ve been using this with my QC since day one and it’s solid as a rock:

…The power supply is center-pin-positive, so I use a reverse polarity cable to connect it to the QC. This one is rated for 3A:

I use a 3-prong Y-splitter on my Templeboard so the QC is powered by itself, and my other pedals are run off of a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Plus 3.

I don’t know enough to say whether the Crux inherently has a problem such that it can ruin a Quad Cortex. But I’ve never had to deal with power issues at all using the stuff I mentioned above which costs like $30-40 together.

Thank you, everyone. I want to be able to use the Crux but I don’t trust it at this point. I already have the Cioks DC 7. I hate having to plug in the wall wart on top of the pedal board. Oh well.

Have you also tried to turn down the brightness on the QC ?

The crux is maxed at 2A @ 12V.

The booting sequence of the QC takes 2A roughly.

The crux is seriously underpowered for the QC.

I have concluded that the Crux is the problem. The QC will not boot now. It’s strange how that just started though. I thought about getting another Crux and link the power together but I don’t have confidence that will last as a solution.

My simple solution is an IEC Y chord. From my power supply I just split so that one side goes to my Cioks DC7 and the other will go to an IEC male to AC female converter that will plug into the QCs power supply. Cost me about $21 from Amazon and will be here today.

Thank you everyone for the input.

Wow. This is highly concerning news. I have been using the DC7 with the three cable doublers (using 4 outputs on DC7) for about 3 years with two different QC units and I haven’t had any issues.

Do you think it’s just an issue with the crux unit itself?

Anyone had issues using the DC7 without the crux?

I’m Going back to stock PS just in case.
