One button looper over midi

Here’s a guide to use the QC looper with a single footswitch on an external midi crontroller, since there are quite a few feature requests relating to it.There are obviously some limitations which you will just have to work with, or find an alternative solution.
This is based on a Morningstar MC6Pro, so you will need to translate this to whatever you are using.

Ideally, you’ll want to use some kind of ‘Toggle Mode’ so that the footswitch can indicate when you are recording. State 1 - normal/playback, State 2 - recording.

Then set midi messages as below:

  • First button press activates the loop record (or arms it if you have a threshold set).
  • Second press stops recording and immediately begins playback.
  • Subsequent presses activate and deactivate overdubs.
  • Single long press stops everything while recording
  • Long press followed by a short press stops everything while just in playback

For the last two, you can just do a long press for both, but then the toggle mode on the MC6 gets out of sync and will show recording when not etc…

The Darkglass MIDI FS does this well and also looks great with the QC. For example, you can use four footswitches for scenes, the fifth for the looper, and all of the QC’s built-in footswitches for stomps.
