New user: questions about captures and IR

Hi everyone,

I just received my nano cortex and I’m new to this world (don’t own a QC). I have some basic questions about captures and IR.

  1. If I download a capture from cortex cloud that is a capture of an amp+cab, does it generally still need an IR to be loaded apart from it or should I bypass the IR (since an IR reflects the speaker/mic?)

  2. If i would for instance want to capture my uafx dream pedal. would you recommend turning on an IR on the dream too when capturing or only the amp?

  3. I’ve noticed ost captures on cortex cloud do not recommend an IR to use with it. Any recommendations what the best ‘generic’ IRs are?

Try is with and without a loaded IR and or bypassed. Let your ears do the walking. Phase issues will tell you if the capture includes a cab.

nah, that’s not how phasing works and thus you won’t hear phasing. but there’s a rule of thumb: if your ir loader is off and the capture sounds shitty, chances are high that it doesn’t include a cab. if your ir loader is on and it sounds like shit, chances are high the capture includes a cab.

  1. depends on what like more.

  2. there are too many irs out there. free ones as well as paid. i bought quite a few ownhammers, so that’s what i’m typically end up using
