My feedback from a week with the Nano after using a Helix for nearly a decade

My feedback for Neural developers to consider…

*Yesterday I went and bought an expression pedal for it. So I’m testing the wahs… Shocked to see there’s no controls on any of the wahs. No mix control, no other parameters. The wahs themselves are fine, but winding back the mix knob really helps a high gain wah sound, as does controlling the other parameters. I play a funk metal hybrid, I’d rather have control over the wah. There’s no good reason to cripple it like this.

*I always like shaping the sound a bit with an EQ when it’s coming out of the pedal. Neural are making us waste a full FX slot when we want EQ - which requires very little DSP. They could add a locked EQ slot, which frees up an FX slot for something else. I know you have the 3 band EQ on the unit, but they’re fixed and we just have far less control that a proper parametric and I like an EQ after the cab to really fine tune it.

*No global EQ. When you’re at a gig and you want an EQ across the board… Again, EQ is super light on DSP. But gee, at least the extra parametric slot as I said above.

*No tremolo. Super weird to have omitted this. Very easy effect for them to have added. It’s not an effect I’d use particularly often, but I do want it there for occasional use. This is another effect that is so light on DSP it could warrant its own locked extra slot so that you’re optimizing as many FX slots as possible.

*No BPM option when setting delays. This in particular is really absurd. So I’ve then gotta always load up a millisecond to BPM calculator and it’s just a hassle that shouldn’t be there that makes the user experience painful.

*No tap tempo. Really should have thought of this in the hardware design, it’s so useful. Implementing it now is gonna be clunky in use, but it’s still better to have it than not. Can workaround and just have presets with the correct bpm we need for songs, but still.

*Pretty much every effect should have a mix knob, they don’t all have it, not just the wahs.

*No copy/paste of presets. This is weird as hell to me. Would make things easier…

There’s a lot to like about the unit, but it could be a lot better and it wouldn’t even be that hard to do.

Agreed on everything expect copy and paste presets. You can do a “Save As” of a active preset to a used or unused slot.

I know you can, but that is still clunkier than doing it from the preset list. I’m coming from Helix software that is frankly better. Trust me, it’s quicker and easier.
