Mvave Chocolate Plus USB Host

Does anyone knows how to use midi over USB using a mvave chocolate plus usb host output?

Is this a feature request or a question?

This is working.

Working fom me too
This helped me:

In the Nano Cortex app, it’s set to Exp Pedal, because that’s only for the 1/4" port. The USB-C port is ONLY MIDI or power delivery.

So it wasn’t easy, but you update the Chocolate Plus with push updates manually through a weird updater app (SincoOTA on iPad) and the files are on cuvave.com (in the Mobile Firmware tab)

Then, you can program the Chocolate Plus with an app called CubeSuite (on iPad again). That app is extensive and you can do so much with it. However, I don’t think the Nano Cortex can do CC controls :frowning: (someone please correct me if I’m wrong!)

Then, you set it all up. Expression pedal through the 1/4" EXP/MIDI port, and the Chocolate Plus has to be POWERED by a USB-C cable. Then put it in host mode (the switch that goes U/O/H), and connect from the USB-A host port to the USB-C port of the Nano Cortex using an A-to-C cable

I just use it to change presets, so the you have eight to pick from at a time. And the Chocolate Plus can change banks, so you can theoretically chops any of the 64 presets if you are quick enough with your feet

Hi there,

The set up via USB host works fine ! Except for one issue : when I power the M wave (5V USB C as instructed in the manual) I get HUGE BACKGROUND NOISE. Any ideas ? Tips to reduce that noise ? (I can’t power the chocolate to my kiosk DC 7 since USB C is not supported).

Thanks a bunch !!!

I have the same setup, it works really well. Very portable.

I don’t have any noise issues. However, when I first got the Nano, I did have to change the polarity switch position because in the default position it was so noisy. But this has nothing to do with the m-vave.

maybe try using a different power brick or usb cable, that might be the problem. I have powered the m-valve from different sources and I don’t get any noise.

Can you point me to use step-by-step instructions for setting up and configuring the Chocolate Plus to change presets and toggle effects on/off.

Sadly, I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos but they seem to breeze over one step or another that leaves the process explanation incomplete. Of course, maybe I’m just being dense b/c MIDI is new to me.

You need to set up your Chocolate Plus with de Cube Suite app. It may be wise to update the Chocolate first, I just received mine this week but can’t really remember if I did this because I ordered a Blackstar Live Logic as well and it was a few hectic days of testing, searching information, more testing and some swearing. I managed to get both controllers working with the Nano, although I now use the Blackstar for controlling the Nano and the Chocolate for controlling Reaper.

You need to use the USB-A output on the Chocolate for controlling the Nano with the Chocolate and set the switch on the Chocolate to H (host).

When programming the Chocolate on a computer you need to use the USB-C output on the Chocolate and set the switch to U.

Figuring these two things out cost me a day and didn’t improve my mood. The manuals for the Chocolate Plus that I could find offer very little information and not in a very clear way. Or I’m daft, that could also be (ask my kids).

I have exported the settings I used in the Chocolate Plus to a file

There was one youtube vid that helped a lot in figuring things out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sWjTZzX5BQ&list=PLfLqFsGp2Ad-XmKuXwpgfrPsPzCPW5eKI&index=7

I used the method where you have a bank with four presets controlled with pc commands and then you have a second bank with cc commands that switch the effect slots. The video explains this. The list of cc commands is very handy when you want to set up the Chocolate, they are in the online manual.

If you want to try my settings import the file from the link above. You probably don’t want to use the exact same settings but seeing the values in the Cube Suite may help to understand how this works. It wasn’t easy until I figured it out. Somehow that is true most of the time

Hi, I’m using it just to change presets — I simply reorder them on the Nano and then recall them using the M-Vave. I haven’t used it for toggling effects on and off, but there are plenty of videos that show how to do that. You’ll need to use the M-Vave app and set it to “Advanced Mode.” From there, you can assign each switch to do whatever you want (toggle effects on/off, turn on the tuner, tap tempo, etc.). You just need to refer to the Nano manual to see which CC message controls each function.

It’s not complicated if you have some experience with MIDI. Otherwise, keep watching the many videos available online — even if they’re not specific to the Nano. The process is pretty much the same for other devices, as long as you follow the MIDI implementation described in the Nano manual.

Thanks, that’s super helpful. :+1:

I’ll check out the video and try your settings export.

Thanks for the tips and encouragement.

I have no MIDI experience, but I do have a lot of general PC & basic coding experience, so I get the idea of structured data.

Hey, set up for the chocolate plus was easy, you don´t need midi skills. As far I remember I had to keep the Mvave connected to a power adapter.

But the Mwave ist very limited , so I purchased a luminite fx graviton M2 with display. 6 switches to use.

4 presets , tuner and 3 effects switchable with double action on the switches.
