Midi Footswitch With QC

Is it possible for the lights on a midi footswitch to coordinate to the on/off state of scenes? Not sure if I would need to use the midi out on the QC back to the midi footswitch?

I realize I could use the midi footswitch to turn on/off stomps or scenes. But I don’t want the scribble strip or light to be out of sync with the unit if it’s pressed twice.

When I mean the lights on a midi footswitch, I mean on something like the Paint Audio Midi Captain that has LED’s that correspond to each footswitch. Ideally I would have the lights on the Midi Captain correspond to whichever Scene is on/off. Not sure if the QC can send info to the footswitch to let it know whether the scene is engaged or not

That’s more a limitation of MIDI, which is in essence a unidirectional link (hence the need for separate MIDI Ins and Outs). Keep in mind it’s 40 years old tech at this point, it’s an issue you have with pretty much anything not using dedicated/proprietary connections ala FAS Link (for Fractal) or MIDI over USB (or WIDI).

With some MIDI controllers you can “fake” the interaction by grouping switches and overall clever programming, but short of using gear that’s designed to have a 2-way communication, you won’t be really able to achieve this. Again, that’s a limitation of MIDI as a whole.

I have just configured a MIDI Captain Nano to control aspects of my QC. The Nano gives you a lot of control over its button LEDs. In fact, each button is surrounded by 3 different LEDs and if you want you can have each one a different colour or off. You specify what colour you want for each button press, so if a button is changing a scene you can definitely turn the LEDs off when that scene isn’t on and choose the colour for when it is on. If you are using it to loop through scenes you can set a colour for each scene.
For example I have a button that toggles between Scene view and Stomp view and the button’s LEDS are blue in Scene view and orange in Stomp view.
