Help with hybrid QC/Pedalboard signal chain?

I’m building a hybrid Quad Cortex/pedalboard setup at the moment with a 2x12 cab. I’m not good with the names of cables, signal chain stuff etc, and wondering if someone can help me out so I can source everything I still need.

I have the Quad Cortex on the Temple Audio Duo 24 board with a Cioks DC7 + Crux. I have the Amp Mod for the Temple Audio board, as well as the IEC Power mod and a 2 x IO mod.

I also have a handful of pedals (Strymon Deco, Blue Sky, El Capistan, EAE Longsword, 1981 ODR, and Skreddy Lunar Module).

What would the signal chain be here? If someone could do a diagram for a simpleton to understand that would be so appreciated. I’m not sure where all my cables go and exactly what types I’ll need.

I think you are going to have a power issue. I have the Temple amp mod and and use a DC7 to power the board. I don’t use the Crux because there is no advantage to it in this application. You need close to 5a @ 24 volts to drive the amp mod to 100w. I settled on using the 24v Aux out of the DC7 to power the amp mod. I have to limit the amp output to 25w. I use 4 of the 500ma cables with the parallel adapters to power the QC. If you want to power the Temple amp mod to 100w get a 24v 8a computer power supply. Be careful with this. Computer power supplies are center positive. The quad and nearly all other guitar pedals are center negative. Fortunately the Temple amp mod will accept a center positive power supply. I would use the DC7 and Crux to power the Quad and the pedals and an aftermarket to supply the amp mod.

I used this one and was able to get 105db out of a Celestion FRFR. I still use the amp mod but limited to 25w for jamming with friends without drums. Everything else I go front of house with wireless IEMS now.

Thanks for your help. Honestly a lot of it is a bit over my head as I’m no good at understanding power requirements. I do know I don’t need 100W, because I’m playing purely at home in my office at relatively low volumes. I bought the Crux because I need more power slots to power all my pedals right? Using the DC7 alone for the QC takes up 4 of the 7, but I have 7 pedals including the QC. Plus the Amp Mod that I need to power somehow.

So, you bought one of those PC power supplies and have to run a second power cable to the pedal board? Where do you run it into the board? I was hoping to keep my setup super clean as I have the IEC mod.

Well I think you have a couple pedals that are power hogs and that changes your options a bunch.

The Crux was designed to power up the QUAD from the Aux output. It has 1 outlet that you must select to 9v or 12v. So you can’t use the crux to power up the quad and other loads.

The Temple Amp will accept anything from 9v to 24v. In the manual there is a chart that lists the power draw from each voltage to amp output.

If you power the Quad from the Crux then you have to power the amp from 1 of the 7 outputs of the DC7. The best you can get here is configuring 1 of the outputs to 12v. You can get 500ma out of this which unfortunately only gets you 3watts out of the Temple amp.

I don’t know how loud you play at home. I push 85db so the equalization is more consistent. If you are playing at bedroom levels the 3w is probably fine.

I honestly think because of your external pedals your best option is to use the Crux for the quad, the DC7 for the pedals and a separate supply for the amp.

I was using an Eventide H9 that also had a significant power draw. I decided to an IEC splitter adapter cable to run the Cioks gear and the 24v computer supply off of the same IEC adapter.

So to simplify this I would use this y adapter.

The separate power supply would be fine if I can hide it underneath the board and use the splitter cable, thus still only having the one power cable go to the board. That’s a good tip, thank you!

Yeah I was headed this direction and use the Temple Amp for a Backline into a Xitone Wedge.

I ended up using IEM instead of a monitor wedge.

The price points on all this gear is coming way down.

Better for the ears too :+1:

I ordered the Y splitter and power supply you recommended. Unfortunately, the Y splitter doesn’t fit the power supply. It’s the same shape, but I think the middle prong might be a tiny bit taller on the power supply than the Y splitter? I purchased a different brand Y splitter and power supply to try again and had the same issue. I don’t get it, they look like they should fit? Any clues as to what’s going on?

I tried my power supply with a few different cords I have. It took more force than I expected to get the plug to seat.

Did you resolve this or are you still at an impasse?
