Expression pedal issues after 2.2 update

I am not able to assign my mission engineering pedal. I can assign the expression but when I try to assign the toe down switch the window closes automatically and does not work. But my patches created before the update work fine. I have not yet connected to the control app on my computer yet. Is there a work around for this? Would connecting to the control app fix this issue?
