After careful consideration, I’ve decided to move on from the Quad Cortex to a different modeller. My primary concern is / has been the lack of consistent development updates — features have been labelled ‘coming soon’ for approximately four years with little concrete progress. Overall, I feel the communication and support for the existing user base have fallen short of expectations.
I’m sure many other users are in the same position but have spent hard earned money on the unit, and cannot readily afford to ditch it. Its a real shame as I have had many years of playing modellers / fx units, and by far Neural are the worst for poor communication and frequency of updates.
And the sad thing is, I don’t think they will care as they have had £1500 from me. I had really high hopes for this unit.
Hi xmac. I am gutted to be honest. I really thought that they would do a better job of looking after the customer base. Dont get me wrong, it is a good unit, but I’ve got frustrated no and cant enjoy it any more knowing that things wont change. I hope you get on with yours. On the plus side it has been super reliable for gigging!!
Tonemaster Pro. Other guitarist in the band has one. Sounds superb. I know its subjective, so not slating the sounds of the quad, but i just think it has a little more something.
There certainly are lots of reasons to be frustrated with the current QC, but an undefined lack of updates seems an odd reason to move to another product unless the other product does something specific that the QC does not.
That’s obviously not the only reason. Over promising, & under delivering is the main reason. If you are still happy with yours then great. My patience has run out with Neural that’s all. Each to his / her own.
Oh I moved on from the QC long ago because it was noisy, I didn’t like the overdrives, the switching was limited, and all the jacks and switches felt wobbly and ready to break any day.
I hang around hoping they will improve the product because I really like the core capture sounds and the fact it can take the captures without other hardware. I’m kinda hoping the Mini at least isn’t so noisy and the ins/outs feel better, but they are always out of stock so far and I’m not preordering one.
If you didn’t like the build quality of the QC, I don’t see how you would like the Mini. Nothing is improved on it for the jacks, noise floor, sound, etc. probably has more drawbacks aside from the size tbh.
That isn’t anything to talk down on the QC, since I feel like it’s pretty solid. the jacks don’t feel cheap, and the noise floor is pretty low. I think the mini actually has less headroom than the QC. At least I’ve seen people say the input might be noisier or less headroom than the full size unit. Also the footswitches react upon release and not when you step on them.
