Hello all, I’ve been having this issue for a long time. I feel like I’ve tried everything to resolve it. After palm mutes or sustained notes, I tend to get a crazy feedback and crackling as the notes ring out, it’s very distracting. I made a sound file for an example but since I’m a new user I cannot upload it. This is likely an issue with any plugin and not strictly Gojira. Personally I think I am just picking up a lot more feedback and noise than I should be.
Things I have tried that seem to help slightly but don’t actually solve the issue:
Gain knob all the way down on interface
Volume Knob backed off a little on the guitar
Input level on Plugin turned down a bit
I’ve been looking into DI boxes but I really am not sure if it’s going to help.
I’m on a brand new Mac mini m4. 24 ram.
Any help is appreciated.
What are you using for an interface? The reason I ask is that they often have a signal to noise ratio that can actually improve as they are turned up. I recently watched a video of a guy who has seen this come up numerous times and he broke it down that with its a misconception that your interface should automatically be set to zero. It was explained by him that most interfaces have an optimal range where you bring the interface up until it shows it is clipping and then back it off. I would suggest looking into the specs of your actual interface and see if setting that higher and then adjust from there.
I dont use the plugins on my laptop. I just buy them to unlock them on the quad. But even on the QC Its been said and it may be incorrect but that the unit makes the least amount of noise the higher the main volume on the unit can be turned up. Somthing about with it being at 100% it is at unity and has the best signal to noise ratio.
I have also noticed certain guitars with some pickups are more susceptible to noise even if they are humbuckers. For instance my kiesel 7 is tamable but they are so damn hot and if I do a palm mute on the low strings that is ringing out I can get this digital artifact and hissing noises. Especially if my pinky gets close to the tape around the coils. My NX6 strandberg nothing. My 21 LP classic, same as my kiesel. Especially if I run it bridge pickup straight to the output jack. The only reason its not as noisy is because the pickup ring prevents me from getting my pinky to cause noise. Oddly enough my Edwards LP 125 ALS has unpotted SD seth lovers. Like they are covered non wax potted pickups and the pickup cavitys have no shielding and that thing is dead silent. I mean its crazy because even with the low ohms and wax potting the thing just does controlled feedback but no hiss or hum. Making me want to look at my kiesel in particular to see if there is anything I can do to improve the sheilding. I didnt have an issue with actives. But passives sometimes.
