Cortex Control does not work in macOS Sequoia

CorOS Version: 3.0.1

Describe your issue:
Attempting to run Cortex Control on macOS 15 Sequoia, it crashes occasionally on startup when loading preset (but not always). Also, the UI no long updates in response to mouse click events once an edit has been done in Cortex Control.

Steps to reproduce your issue:

  1. Instal Cortext Control (latest version) on macOS 15
  2. Start Cortex Control
  3. Notice that Cortex Control often crashes when loading preset…
  4. If Cortex Control does load successfully, notice that the UI is responsive and updates as expected
  5. Do some edit in Cortex Control: I tried updating a preset name, or adding a block. Notice that the UI is still responsive to mouse events, but the UI display no longer updates.

I expected this to happen:
I expect macOS 15 to be supported, that Cortex Control doesn’t crash, and that the UI remains responsive and updates while making edits using Cortex Control.

I have tried the following things:

  • When Cortex Control display is not updating in response to mouse clicks, Quad Cortex does respond and display properly.

Good to know, I just updated to Sequoia, but I did not try to launch CC yet…

I’m on Sequoia (Mac Mini M2) and my Cortex Control works just fine, been using it all afternoon. Actually, v1.1.0 all afternoon, just updated to v1.1.1 and it works fine as well (seems to start up faster actually).
Must be something else going on with your setup.

Turns out it was the power supply I was using. I appears to be injecting some noise into the USB connection making it unstable. I switches to the QC power supply and all is working fine. The power supply was https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9R5R3C2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Glad you sorted it out, and that’s good to know about that power supply !

Hey, that power supply is listed as having a 2.5 mm end. The QC needs 2.1 mm for power. Did that replacement power supply feel loose by any chance?

I had the same problem: using another power supply introduced noise into my QC and it was absolutely unusable for anything USB-related. I came back to the NDSP provided power supply and it went fine.
And mine was 2.1mm. I think that the QC is just very very sensitive to noise in the power supply.

They both measured 2.15 mm. Must be a typo in the add.

It is unfortunate that this problem is repeated… It is clear that there is a fundamental problem with the QC boot sequence… Even Sonoma has a boot probability of about 60%… They said it was due to poor USB communication, but once fixed:… It has recurred many times. No matter how great the software is, if it doesn’t boot, what’s the point?

Been in contact with neural;

Appreciate your frustration. The developers are working on a fix as mentioned, and this will come in the form of a software update, so we ask for your patience until the fix is released.

Thank you, have a nice weekend

Thanks for your reply.
I know it’s a lot of work fixing bugs, but good luck. I think the fact that you are degrading means that you simply don’t have enough automated testing. Take the weekend off (it’s only Wednesday) and get rid of those pesky bugs!

Unfortunately using the factory power supply didn’t help me. I have been normally powering it with a DC7/Crux but no matter what power supply, no matter what USB cable, it ALWAYS crashes at the last loading block in the startup screen. Every now and then it makes it into the main interface but almost immediately goes back to the loading screen and crashs on the last loading block.

Works flawlessly with a windows 11 computer and worked flawlessly before upgrading to Sequoia.

One other thing I’ve notcied is that Rode Central (the app used to manage my lav mic’s) also crashes EVERY single time I try to open it once I connect the lav mic usb case to the macbook. The software opens fine and sits there asking for me to connect the microphone charging case but once I do, the app immediately crashes.

It’s almost like there’s some weird USB bug going on that the software doesn’t like.

Its possible macOS introduced a defect around USB communication error processing. I have seen macOS USB issues in the past.

Working fine in Sequoia (15.0.1) for me. I’m going direct not via USB hub

I use an OWC Thunderbolt hub, and it’s working fine too in 15.0.1. But I did have to use a different power supply in QC.

As mentioned, Cortex Control mostly works on mine with a Mac Mini M2 on macOS 15.0.1. I’m using a Ugreen powered USB 3.0 hub I bought off Amazon btw.
I do sometimes have crashes on occasion, seems to be when I start up the software while the QC is still booting up, but I’m not positive it’s the reason why as most of the time it works fine.
