Ok, so I’m using the QC for my first live gig tomorrow evening.
I’ve got it set up using a separate midi pedal to change modes (because the ‘double press’ way of changing modes on the QC itself is so awful and there’s such a significant chance of changing preset by mistake halfway through a song, which would be really embarrassing - rather than changing mode)
But if I want to change Bank from gig view, when I press the bank up/down button it takes me to the individual preset in the new bank that is allocated to whatever footswitch the preset I’m currently using is allocated to, RATHER THAN THE OVERVIEW (in gig view) OF ALL THE PRESETS IN THE NEW BANK.
Is there a way to achieve this, or is this just yet another oversight in the QC UI that sadly you only discover after living with it for a while?
Sorry, that’s a bit ambiguous; by ‘double press’ I mean having to press both the Preset down, and the Tuner foot switches at the same time.
It is my biggest gripe with a QC above everything else that every time you try to change modes mid-song, there is a chance you accidentally hit the Preset down a fraction of a second before you hit the Tuner switch, and end up changing presets rather than changing modes.
After using QC in gigs for a year plus and changing the approach I settled on the following. I highly recommend but know it takes time getting comfortable and time settting it up so its seem less.
Stereo front of house feeding floor wedge - I use midi to sync rest of band clocks, patches synth - each is qued via the preset mode and midi in each button per song.
I highly recommend hybrid mode. Scenes give you colors for verses, chorus, intro, solo etc depending on the song. Stomp mode can then drive combinations of pedals and then can be relabeled as well
Much less foot dancing - less risk - of double tap.
Also I save all tempos per preset to ensure midi clock is right and I don’t mess up if I need a quick tune. Headstock tuner recommended though
Also highly recommend iPad with usb and stage traxx3. Watch YouTube for this. But using that app to set playlists, Que songs is super helpful.
Like many I was super unimpressed and disappointed when they finally released the Hybrid Mode; what I really want is for them to add a user option to make Preset changes a LONG press only, so there is never a chance that you can change preset by mistake; especially in edit mode, I sometime get confused and press a footswitch rather than dial one; because the switch LED is illuminated to show that there is a parameter assigned to it, it can often make you think that you can press to turn off and on.
However I will give Hybrid another go, because tbh I rarely use more than 4 scenes per preset. I still want the option of accessing more switches in Hybrid Mode (a long press to access a ‘Page 2’ of footswitches for example, there are feature requests for this sort of thing) and I still want them to allow me to user configure the preset change function. And then we’re pretty much there with the QC*
(*oh, one more thing - please please please change the utterly stupid way that pressing ‘undo’ to revert back to a previous setting when you are editing a block parameter ALWAYS takes you back to the Grid view, preventing you from seeing the parameter change back to the previous setting. This is possibly the worst aspect of the QC UI! )
since we’re on the cusp of them completing some of the biggest, long-standing improvements/projects maybe we should start a campaign to boost the important feature requests votes since they’ll soon have more time to devote to developing those?
I totally agree! The more I play with the QC the more I realise that what I would call ‘basic’ features don’t exist in it, and I know they’re going for the headline things like plug-in compatibility but that’s of no interest to me at all, I’d prefer them to get the basics right first…
