I’m surprised I couldn’t find a feature request for this, especially after seeing multiple suggestions for it in the Disable blinking Tap temp light thread:
Interestingly, all of these suggestions were made before the QC Mini existed. I’d say this feature is even more relevant to the QC Mini where the current tap tempo indicator obscures what the footswitch D LED would normally display.
For implementation, I imagine a simple option in the global settings:
Tap Tempo Indicator
LED (default)
☐ On Screen
With LED selected, the tap tempo indicator would behave as it does currently. With On Screen selected, the tap tempo could instead be shown as a small blinking dot on the display. A green blinking dot when using the QC’s internal tap tempo, or a blue blinking dot when receiving MIDI clock. I guess there could be an option to enable both the LED indicator and on screen indicator at the same time, but I don’t see the point of that unless the on screen option also has the option to show the BPM similarly to the BOSS example above.
That’s the end of the feature request, BUT, as a bonus, there could also be a global override to always show or hide the tap tempo indicator, regardless of how it is configured on the tempo screen for each individual preset.
I can see this potentially causing some confusion though. One way to address that would be to show a small “!” indicator on the tempo screen whenever the preset has the tap tempo indicator enabled but it has been disabled by the global override. Tapping the “!” could bring up an info box explaining that the global setting is overriding the preset setting, with a button to jump directly to the relevant global setting.
That would preserve the flexibility of having both per-preset and global control, while still making it clear to the user why the indicator isn’t behaving according to the preset’s setting.
