Which cables to use and how to power the QC with DC7 + Crux

I just got the DC7 and Crux.

There are a lot of cable options and I don’t know what to do.

I switched the dip on the crux to 12V.

There are 3 cables in the crux box, I think I need two of them. One is called link, I think it goes from the 24V jack on the DC7 to the crux, but which of the other two cables to the QC?

And how do I know which cables to use to power center negative pedals as well from the DC7?

I’m sorry, I can’t seem to find this exact information on the web, and can’t make heads or tails of the card that details which cable is which.

Any help would be appreciated.

Use the black ones with the barrel connectors. CIOKS calls them Type 1 and there are straight and angled versions and multiple lengths.

Here is a PDF from the CIOKS web site, detailing all their cable options.

Is it true the Cioks DC7 runs a lot less hot when used with the Crux instead of the 3 connected parallel cables?

Anybody got any experience?

These are the cables that come with the DC7, the Crux comes with other cables but l not covered here, and there’s no similar manual for the Crux.

There are two possible cables it could be with the crux, one black with a white stripe, the other with a yellow end. It could be either from what I can tell, and on a Facebook group I got opposite answers telling me which to use.

I have watch pretty much every video on powering the QC with a crux, and nobody actually says which cable to use, just to use “the right one”. This is stupid.

I’m worried that I’ll pick the wrong cable, fire it up, and fry my QC, turning it into a brick.

From the Cioks website:

Looks like you need to use the black one because it’s 2.1mm, which is what the Quad Cortex uses in its power jack (same as Boss and 99% of other pedals). The yellow one, being 2.5mm, is too large and will not make a solid connection with the QC’s 2.1mm pin.

A bit too much asking around on the internet and not enough of looking up specs which are supplied by the manufacturer.

As I said: Use the black one.
The cables are the same for crux and DC7. And the two cables that come with the crux (see “what’s in the box“ above) are in the list I posted.

All black cables wit barrel connector are center negative, so you won’t damage anything. Even the yellow one is center negative but, like DiffractionCircuit pointed out, is too large.

Splitting hairs here, but a power cable is not “center pin negative” natively. It only carries what it carries from the power supply to whatever device.

Crux is center-negative, and the cable is standard polarity, thus it delivers center-negative power to the QC. I don’t like how the Cioks website describes the cables themselves as center-negative, but whatever.

(Yes, center-pin-positive pedals like Moogerfoogers exist, and yes, reverse-polarity cables exist to address this, etc. Not relevant to the discussion.)

Absolutely correct.
I guess CIOKS describes it this way (and I went along with it) to keep it simple for customers who are just searching for cables to use in conjunction with their power supplies.

Thanks for the help everyone, much appreciated!

I hope this post is helpful to someone else

The DC7 is totally capable of powering the QC without the need of a Crux. On my board I have been powering my QC, my Shure GLXD, my Peterson Tuner and a Midi switcher, plus powering USB outlets for charging, since the QC was released. The DC7 is superb.

I’m confident the Cioks DC7 can handle it though it is right underneath my QC. The Cioks gets fairly hot and I worry it makes the QC run much hotter too…

The flimsy stock PSU that came with the QC stays at room temperature. Weird right?

Does you Cioks run hot too?

My CIOKS is not situated directly under my QC but I have never noticed it get particularly warm. It has always worked perfectly even in very warm gigging conditions. Each output from the DC7 clearly indicates the amp load available. The CIOKs is working well within its operating capacity when powering a QC. I believe many QC users rely on the DC7 exclusively. I believe the Crux was introduced to free up more ports for DC7 users who needed them. Hope this helps.

Why both the GLXD and a separate tuner? I just ordered a new glxd just for the purpose of saving a spont on my bord/floor..

The Tuner is excellent on the GLXD, way superior to the QCs, but I have used Peterson Tuners for years. I often use their sweetened tunings and also I have a Buzz Feitened Strat.
