CIOKS DC7 running really hot powering QC

Hi there, anybody has any experience with the CIOKS DC7 with 3 parallel cables powering QC? I just got the CIOKS and mounted it underneath the pedalboard, and currently it is running only QC, but that thing gets really hot (almost too hot to touch) and QC gets really hot too since it is super close above CIOKS. Is this normal? I would hate fry any of the two.

Thanks for any advice.

Hmm, is your pedalboard on carpet? Any sort of material right up against it that might prevent it from cooling?

I’ve used the Cioks + QC for insanely hot shows in the summer and had no overheating issues. My go pro was overheating very fast during the sets, but I have two DC7’s running power on my board + a QC, and nothing was super hot on there. Definitely pulling more power than your setup.

To my understanding, when you set any output to 12V, it can output 500 mA. You need to provide at least 2000 mA to the QC. So you need to have a minimum of four outputs paralleled if you’re going to do it this way. But more is better.

…Or you could get the Crux, which is specifically meant to power a unit like the QC through a DC7.

By 3 parallel cables he probably means 3 adapters, ie 4 outputs aggregated into 1, which is the recommended wiring.

I’m having the exact same issue under a metro 16
Ive re-housed the pedalboard to a bigger one since last month!

Opened a ticket with the suppliers cause its been getting hotter and hotter for the last like 4 months…

It gets STUPID hot!

But yeah, exact same issue as you, my QC was starting to get hot as well so had to move them away

Just bought a crux to see if it helps since I’m also running the 4 ports jumped.

Just a guess, but the issue might be that the QC sits just on top of the DC7, obstructing the bottom vents, which would cause the QC to overheat.
one way to test this would be to move the DC7 (or the QC of course) and see if the QC still overheats.

not the case! vents are unblocked its purely the extreme heat (rising) from the dc7 in my case

plus covering the bottom vents shouldn’t bring you too much trouble I expect, as the unit doesn’t have a fan, and its obviously designed to be laying down…

the problem once again is not the qc itself more of a cioks issue

To the OP:

It’s clear that you’re running your DC7 outputs at maximum, which is not good. Either add another parallel cable (or two) to bring the individual currents down across the outputs, or buy a Crux.

If the OP is using 3 parallel cables (like I am) then is the necessary amount and exact same as a crux!

But I’m also wondering if the crux will negate the issue…

Will report back once it arrives

Hmm… yes I’ll be looking forward to your report. I run it the same way and I haven’t had any problems but I also can’t recall if I’ve ever felt under there while the QC is on.

Quick update
The ccrux does indeed help with the heat!
The dc7 operates slightly cooler, I’ve also added an cioks grip with I think helps with the heat dissipation to the rest of the board!

Thanks everyone! I did some research and eventually bought the CRUX too, just to be on the safe side. Both QC and CIOKS are now room temperature with CRUX.

Great! They Ended up replacing my dc7 and the new one runs much cooler! Specially with the crux

After two different QC’s of mine have experienced the endless boot loop, I’m wondering if the Crux isn’t the best for it. I’ve used the Crux mainly since getting the QC a year and a half ago. Kinda worried that it not being able to supply the full power amount of the QC power supply is leading to issues for me
