What kind of pedalboard are you guys using?

Just got a quad cortex a month ago. Took a while to get the levels and tones dialed. 4 gigs in… loving it so far!

I just finished building my pedalboard + hardcase, and since I struggled to find what I wanted, I thought I might help whoever needs something similar :

I wanted a simple rig for my acoustic guitar, with QC + boost + wireless transmitter, that could fit inside a hardcase compatible with most airline companies… Peli / Nanuk style carry-on cases are often slightly bigger than the max size allowed on some European airlines (ex: 55.6cm vs 55cm, I don’t know if there is some tolerance on the max size, and I don’t want to figure it out the hard way)

I finally settled on the Temple Solo 18 pedalboard, with DC7 & Crux underneath, fitted inside an Explorer 5218 Case, and built some velvet-covered Kaizen foam pads to fill the gaps, glued inside with some 3M 90 spray glue. I struggled a bit to fit the pedalboard inside, because the telescopic handle bars & wheel axle eat some of the advertised inner volume, but I managed to do so with some asymmetrical padding. The Explorer 5117 could have worked instead, perhaps with a cleaner & symmetrical padding, but I really wanted the wheels & telescopic handle

Rockboard Tres 3.0

I used to have a 3.2 and had a power amp and tuner on the board, but recently downgraded to a lighter and smaller option.

This looks great! Can you tell me what you’re doing with the power? I’ve read a few other posters having humming issues with the Rockboard patch bays, did you find this? New QC owner here and weighing my options!

Thanks!

I do not have any issues with the Rockboard patch bay; it works well, and there is no strange humming or any other noise.

For power, I’m using a couple of simple extensions I got from Amazon.

Power cable from the wall goes into this thing, which has an on/off switch.

This goes into the patch bay, and from the patch bay, I have this mounted under the board. It actually fits perfectly on the side; you can see it on the top left in the second picture. I have used some 3M dual lock to keep it in place.

Into it I’m plugging the QC power adapter, which next goes into the QC via an angled plug like this one:

All these extensions were fairly cheap, Amazon or your local electronics store

Hope this helps!

A lot of talk about QCs competition lately.

One thing in support of QC is seeing touring bands put them in racks like this which is pretty cool. I don’t seem to see many competitors going in road racks.

Seems to speak to the versatility of the QCs form factor. Put it on your desk/floor/rack/on a board with other pedals.

My DJ board for my weekend gigs. I use this on a tabletop, not on the floor.

how do you like the exp pedal? Deciding between that one and the dunlop

The Dunlop pedal is highly recommended.

I own both the mini Dunlop and the Hotone Ampero II Press. Both work great. For me the Dunlop feels nicer under foot, but the heel down angle of the Hotone is bit better for me. Also the Hotone has the foot switch, so if that’s an important feature for you, then I would go for that one.

The hotone works like a charm and has an additional toe-switch :innocent: I have it on my board too.

Thank you gents, I picked up the Hotone bundle on sweetwater. Loving the cortex so far.

Finally finished, for now, my pedalboard for the QC. Ended up doing some DYI work on the pedalboard to add the connectors, the power cable and a power switch.

(Cable management could be better, but I guess it’s good enough)

Thats awesome… what type of patch cables are they (the round ones, not the rockboard ones). Thanks, Frank

Those are Ghost Fire solderless patch cables.

I’m using a Temple Audio Solo 18, with EBS flat patch cables, and the XLR cables are from Cable Techniques and they fit nice and flush - allowing me to use the XLR mod on the side of the board so I don’t constantly have to plug in and out of the QC. A 4-way patch bay on the side for In 1 and Out 3 (to stage cab). Powered by the Temple Audio 65 watt Power Supply and CIOX CRUX. No complaints here! Does everything I need and more. My patches are pretty simple, using only around 28% CPU. I captured my own amp (Matchless HC30) and main drive pedals (Mr Black Thunderclaw and Bigfoot Engineering King Fuzz) so that all definitely uses less CPU than models. I treat the QC like I would a traditional analog setup with an amp. Not overthinking it, and the patches are all the same. I only have different presets because of tempos with delays, and now the added metronome which sends a click to the drummer. All drops into a Pelican Air 1535 perfectly.

Super proud of the tight wiring on my board. The special routing also improves dynamic range. (That’s a joke of course).

How does the routing improve dynamic range?
