Suggestion for a new hardware unit

Hey guys! Now that some plugins are being ported to the Quad Cortex, I believe NDSP could very well release a new hardware unit that would sit between the Nano and the Quad.

Simply make it with a small screen (no need to be a touch screen…), 3 foot switches and some buttons - similar to an HX Stomp footprint, and it simply loads a full plugin (e.g only loads something like Archetype Plini, or Archetype Nolly, at a time, nothing else) - price it around the same as the HX Stomp and this would sell like f*cking got cakes.

To be fair, that’s what quite some people who got hooked to NDSP plugins wanted - to simply take that for the live setting. No need for captures, more effects, etc. just the plugin itself and a few foot switches to change presets/turn effects on/off and trigger the tuner.

This would:

1- allow NDSP to reuse the work that’s being done to port plugins to the QC

2- create a new unit that’s clearly different from the Nano, and doesn’t cannibalize the Quad (since it’s clearly more limited):

3- boost plugin sales, since you’d need the plugin license to load the plugin into the hardware.

Would be happy to help in any way if there’s a business case for this. Cheers!

Not trying to stir the pot here, but it would be extremely difficult to get users on board with this while we’re still waiting for full PCOM.

hardware revision for the QC? maybe, it’s all just speculation until something is actually announced.

Hate to tell ya that it would mess up lots of peoples brand loyalty to Neural if they released that. Lots of people are waiting on PCOM still after 4+ years.

Also the unit would sell terribly because you’d have to buy each plugin for it to work. Basically would be putting the main feature behind a paywall. That sort of paid upgrade stuff went over terribly with the Kemper Player.

I understand that, that’s why I usually only buy the unit for what it is at the moment, rather than expecting any updates..

I think it would be just a different unit, and it could include a free license for a single plugin with the purchase of the unit. If you want then to use other plugins, you would buy them, just like people already do for using at home or at the studio.

Imagine the shit storm if they released new hardware now!
After all these years of waiting for the promised updates for the Quad Cortex, it already felt like a betrayal when they released the Nano Cortex.

Maybe I should just speak for mysell…and quite frankly I would be really pissed off and would never buy anything from Neural again…
Still waiting for the June update by the way…

I think many of us expected the Nano to be more of a “Dual Cortex” rather than it’s own separate platform that barely integrates with the Quad. I think NDSP even trademarked the “Dual Cortex” name back in the beginning. I could see half a Quad having a certain appeal.

But yeah, if Cordy’s right that something big (or medium) is coming, there will be some UPSET consumers

True. Honestly, this worried me quite a bit when it came out. Even more so than what has been mentioned here with the QC not finished but next hardware already out.

The NC just feels so, … weird. Like it wasn’t even designed by the same company.
Pretty much everything that made the QC so appealing to many, like ratio of switches to size, big touchscreen, easy to use, everything accessible on the unit itself, PCOM (in theory at least), flexibility, … the NC just goes in the opposite direction.

You need a phone to really use it. And your phone has to be online too! But you can’t use it with a PC.
It has only 2 footswitches, even though in the middle there is enough space for a third one or a touchscreen.
It’s so limited with the fixed signal chain and pre-and post effect slots.
So you probably want to put it on a board. But then you can’t easily capture, because the capture out is to the right, which is where other pedals are most likely.
And even though captures use less processing power than pretty much any FX block, it can only load one at a time.
Even the name is off. It’s not really Nano (which the Tonex One and other Mini-pedals could be called) and it’s not a Cortex.

I would hope that Neural is not tone deaf enough to release new hardware.

Hahahaha this has to be a joke right?

Well the since the nano, updates for the Quad Cortex are very rare and quite thin so as a QC owner i wouldn’t be very happy to see a new device (any type).

Totally agree, let them sort stuff on the quad before even thinking about another product

And there is a little gap when you use the footswitch to change presets. It is unusable for me now whith these restrictions. It seems that they made for people that don’t gig, no problem but use this information in their marketing. I have a product $550 + 60% importing tax (Brasil)+ shipping that I can’t use…

I didn’t know about that one. A very similar thing happened with the QC:
Before CorOS 3.0, the boot up time was about 45 seconds or so. Not great by any means, but it improved little by little over a few updates. So it looked like they at least tried to better it.
Then CorOS 3.0 dropped and it got very bad, up to +2 minutes. Making it the slowest modeler on the market.
In addition, some of my presets now weren’t gapless anymore using scene mode. (I am not talking about the known gaps that a few newer amp models introduced).
Gapless preset switching was, just like PCOM for the QC, a core selling point. So it once again shows how little they value their customers.
Taking legal action is the only way at this point, as money is the only language NDSP speak.

Mmmm…

Well, the “where-is-the-update-that-was-supposed-to-be-released-in-june” topic just got obliterated not long after people mention QC2 or OctoCortex so it can indicate something.

I don’t think it was because some complains or it would be very frustrating, we are in a forum, if only the good comments are allowed it will turn totally lifeless.

Yeah, why are threads being nuked? I don’t think anyone got out of line

It’s why i thought maybe the cause was speaking of an Octo Cortex but it’s just a guess…

Maybe i don’t saw all the messages but, to me, threads are blocked or disappear to fast, i rarely see people crossing the line, just disapointed people that shares their frustrations (i think erase that will increase the frustration)

This is why im waiting on the next fractal unit
