Strange "phase issues" on Quad Cortex

Hi everyone,

I’m having a “suspected problem” with the Quad Cortex (and I say suspected because I’m not sure if it’s a real problem or if my ears are deceiving me). It seems to have started producing a strange flanger/phaser/chorus/tremolo-like effect, but there are no effects enabled, or rather, active (as you can see from the photo in the attached link), in the signal chain. As you can hear from the videos and audio files, to my ears, it sounds like there’s some sort of phase issue or something similar, but I’m not sure if this is normal operation or a defect, as I mentioned previously.

In the attached link you’ll find:

  • Video and audio (one recorded from my smartphone and one recorded using Logic) of the alleged sound problem described above.

  • Photo of the preset showing only an overdrive and an amplifier with its speaker active (no modulation effects active).

I’ve already tried a factory reset, but the “suspected problem” persists. I’ve tried further (changing cables, changing instruments, changing inputs and outputs, changing power outlets, trying various presets, using or not using the noise gate, trying various settings, etc.), but the sound remains the same. As I mentioned above, it sounds like a mix, to a not very high volume, of a phaser, a chorus, and a tremolo combined with the signal. I don’t know how to describe it better. The videos and audio were recorded after the aforementioned reset and tests. I’d like your opinion on whether this sound is normal or not, perhaps due to a mix of harmonics or something similar, and if, to your ears and your knowledge, the unit is functioning properly and flawlessly as it should.

Can you share a preset?

It’s the only one in my Cortex Cloud: lucabelfioremusic. I don’t know if there is a way to share a direct link to the preset. I’m not able to find a share button. Thanks a lot.

Do you have the issue stand alone too or only with Logic?
You can try to select the list of outputs step by step and not multiout all engaged

I have the issue mainly standalone when i play through my speaker directly from my Quad Cortex, without any daw. And it seem to be intermittent. It’s like some kind of phase shifting, it’a hard to describe and the recording don’t fully “explain” the issue.
