Hi all, I’ve been running into a strange issue recently with my quad cortex. Randomly, the left output channel will emit what I can only describe as that sound interference when your cell phone gets too close to a speaker and a text is coming through. It happened at 3 different venues during a performance. So not great. It’s only happening on the left output when both xlr outputs are being used. I was able to replicate the sound by clicking on the cortex turner, that’s usually when it starts.
I attempted to bypass this by running an xlr(f) to dual xlr(m) splitter from the right channel. Now it starts happening again.
Things I’ve diagnosed.
The sound happens regardless of whether a guitar is plugged in, so I’m able to rule out it’s an input issue.
The sound happens even if the tuner is engaged. I have the setting where no audio passes through.
Looked at the outputs during the sound, no actual audio is passing through.
I’ve changed power supplies. Using an iso power supply
Tried the ground lifts
I’d really not like to have to buy a new cortex. But idk what else to do. I’d like to find a repair center to have it looked at and fixed. If I go that route, who do I contact at neuraldsp to get this started?
contact support@neuraldsp.com to get a ticket going. They’ll request a video of the issue, and probably recommend backing up and factory re-setting to start with. They’ll probably want status reports filed from your unit also.
If that doesn’t work they’ll get the repair process started.
yeah, unfortunately that’s often the case. Grab it if you can.
I think we had that issue one time at a rehearsal, and we liked the effect and wanted to record it, but then we couldn’t get it back. It was either proximity to a phone or some other device causing interference in the room, which is pretty hard to pin down in a fully stocked studio.
How old is your QC? Out of warranty? Have you tried this in different locations (to rule out unusual interference) In your case, judging by your symptoms and tests, it sounds more like an internal/hardware issue which unfortunately would need sending in for repairs (way cheaper than buying again)
QC is over 3 years old, idk if it’s out of NeuralDSPs warranty. Honestly I’d rather just get it diagnosed and fixed. Happened in a few different rooms the band I play in. One show I was able to stop the sound by taking out the left xlr output. Even happened while the thing was muted on tuning mode. I tried a lot of different things to replicate the issue at home. I really wish I could record the sound, it’s almost more like an electrical tick tick tick like when a record player has some dust or static.
I do play out twice a week both inside and outside, so it’s gotten its fair share of road use. I keep it on top of my amp and control the thing via midi (really wish they would make a rack version instead a petal)
Honestly, I play so much it’s really stupid for me not to have a backup.
