Is anyone else hearing strange chirping type sounds when using Noise Gates - they tend to run after i have stopped playing and sound a bit like R2D2 and the “message” is always the same? The sounds register in QC volume and the Cortex software - also heard on direct headphone out. They stop when i remove the noise gates. I have a heavy metal sound the noise gate is at the front of the chain of addins etc. Any advice?
Just ensuring that you are using the OEM power supply? Is you computer connected to QC via USB? If so, does the sound go away when disconnecting the USB? Worst case, please email support@neuraldsp.com and they will get you sorted quickly. I personally haven’t heard chirping noises so that is a new one for me
I’ve experienced this as well, but only for 1 preset that I had and I’ve since altered it to the point where i don’t think it does it anymore.
I’m not sure what causes this, but it seems to perhaps be a very specific combination of things. It didn’t bother me, even using the preset in a gig because it was only noticeable if nothing else was going on and it was quiet enough to hear it. But yes, it was a bit annoying.
Yes to original OEM PSU, USB removal i will test that tonight by removing it.
ha, yeah its like you’re hearing the code run.
Many thanks.
Thank you, for me seems to be attached or at least on mine repeatable if using noise gates. Will update here as we go along.
Hi There, i removed the USB cable and the chirping (actually more like seagulls in the distance sound) still played out. I have since removed the preset fully and rebuilt it similar - the strange sounds have gone.
Yeah not sure what to make of it either. Glad it’s gone though!
On different note (not pun) have you used yours live? Or at rehearsal? My question being the sound i have at home is epic but i have a stealth power amp and a very heavy metal marshall stack 2 x 4 x 12 1960B at rehearsal - would i need to remove the cab sim once at rehearsals / live? apologies if a noob question but i guess i am.
most likely you’d want to send a signal with no cab to that power amp, but you never know till you try, it might sound OK with the cab.
If not, there are several different ways to send a separate signal w/out the cab. We can talk you thru those if you want to prepare a preset ahead of time for those rehearsals.
Home tones are almost ALWAYS going to sound different at a gig/rehearsal if you’re using different PAs/speakers/amps, etc. Good to get used to hearing the difference and tweaking for it ahead of time. The Global EQ can really help you there if you have to adjust on the fly at the new location.
Brilliant thankyou - i think my question was also an - Is it ok to send cab sims to real cabs? Are we ultimately saying if it works for you its working? No damage can be caused no matter what you send?
I haven’t had that issue those presets specifically as I build all my own from scratch, but I have had that problem which baffled me for quite some time. I thought it was a noise or power issue somewhere else in my chain but found out when I reboot the QC it goes away. It’s a very sporadic problem and I can’t recreate it with any reliability, which is frustrating.
Hi Jamie, thanks for the reply - the patches i was experiencing this on were clean built as it were. It did appear to be related to the noise gates as until they were added i did not hear it. Like yours though, deleting and rebuilding has cured it but it would have been audible at a gig for example and so not great. Like is said it really sounded like you were hearing the code run or an 80s arcade game sequence. Odd.
Thanks for the further info. I’ll try the delete and re-add which I’ve not tried. It was a repeating chirp, fairly quiet, and repeating with some degree of regularity. For a time I thought it was repeating with the tap tempo rate, but in other instances it had no relation.
Mine only happened (or was audible) after i played a riff then stopped - in the silence that came after the distant seagull sounded 2 or 3 times then an R2D2 or Spectrum 48K (if you’ve lived that long) type of sound rounded off as if code was being run to tidy up something. Who knows or dares to dream?
