Hi everyone! Just got the nano cortex a few days ago. I’m able to create some great captures, but as per a known issue I can’t upload any of the captures I’ve made. This hasn’t happened for me with the competition’s hardware. I must say that my introduction to Neural DSP hardware has not been good.
I want to know opinions on returning the Nano Cortex. Also I’m thinking about making a video for the guitar community warning them to stay away. I’m hoping this gets resolved soon, I loved the way the captures sound, but without being able to archive them, the nano cortex is broken with half of its functionality.
I didn’t have these issues with the Tonex or Kemper.
per another thread, a fix for the Cloud App is “coming soon.”
Plenty of choices out there - if something doesn’t give you joy, send it back. That said, all systems have bugs and delayed features. So you pick the best compromise you can live with.
I would wait. There is no Point in changing platforms all the time. Every platform has its compromises and you have to learn it again, think about how to best use it.
Tonex ist great, but the fx is much worse in my opinion. The software is not easy etc.
Line6 has models and no capture tech right now
Kemper has a bad upgrade plan etc
I think the nano is the most carefree and I really believe that the fix is not too far off.
You can always buy other stuff, sell yours, relearn using the new gear or if it’s not a dealbreaker without a fix in sight, just use what you have and play guitar.
This isn’t meant as a criticism as I tried many different solutions, but I’m really happy that I sold my qc ( I kept the Nano) and I don’t care too much not need anything more.
They should fix the most obvious bugs (offline app, capture details the gap between presets) and I’m happy with it
Honestly, I’m not a fan of any particular brand. I own a lot of hardware, and it all works perfectly. I have Universal Audio, Softube, Line 6, Native Instruments, and Apple products, and none of them have given me such a significant problem, especially with a new product. Obviously, there are brands I wouldn’t recommend, and from what I’m seeing in the forums and the issues people are having with Nano Cortex, it’s truly worrying. We’re talking about core functions; this isn’t just any bug, it’s a major bug.
Update: I was hoping when I was told “soon” but the Neural DSP team, it would be a few days or a week. Uh, no…..
I have a huge stock of guitar amps that I want to capture for all the capture formats. So I can’t have this putting a wrench in things.
I returned it. I’m hoping to not have to get a quad cortex for this, but who knows.
I can say that I also have had Fractal Gear and Line 6 and just about everything. And I Love my Tonex pedal. I’m just now sceptical that maybe even the quad cortex is all hype.
“Update: I was hoping when I was told “soon” but the Neural DSP team, it would be a few days or a week. Uh, no…..”
NDSP’s process for firmware updates includes several rounds of beta testing and validation efforts then it would be pushed out to the public which unfortunately takes more time than a day or week. I am imagining they are providing the capture/share bug fix via the next firmware update which will hopefully add additional features as well.
Since your original post was a firm question of “should I return the Nano Cortex?” — my two cents are: no, you shouldn’t. I get that it’s too late now, but still worth posting for others’ interest. My personal experience was that when I first purchased the NC, there was some functionality missing that would’ve made it the be-all-end-all for me (drive, compression, and tap tempo). The next update resolved that, and it sees as much time as my QC for my usage.
With my experience aside, it’s clear that your use case is different. I can respect that we all use different gear, well, for different reasons. I think your best bet before posting a review video would be to at least try a multitude of other units before making your video. It’s one thing to be dissatisfied, and you are of course entitled to share whatever opinion you’d like, for or against a product. And with that in mind, I know I tend to listen more intently to people who say “I ultimately chose product X because it addresses my needs that weren’t otherwise addressed by product B, C, and D” — those are videos that hold more weight for me, because they are comparative in their analysis. People who say “stay away because my experience says it’s not good” is essentially a pineapple-on-pizza argument, and it’s too subjective to really identify with.
But at the end of the day, it’s your usage and your wallet — so the way you chose will be the right choice for you I know I’m beyond happy with mine, and having tried what else is comparably out there, I’m very happy with my investment… it’s why I chose it, after all!

So the rules are that I cannot say anything critical without getting bullied or banned? I didn’t know that this was a censored forum where we can only sing praises. Super lame!
Thanks for this info brother. I value the opinions. For my situation, the major contenders are Tonex, Kemper, NAM and Neural DSP. My goal is to get vintage guitar shop dealers and some prominent Nashville players up to date with the newest tech. The Quad Cortex is a heavy hitter in this market.
I’m not really taking any sides on gear. I just need it to work. The more platforms I have captures on the better.
I’m not going to mince words with touring musicians that want to capture their rig on something small. For now, the nano cortex is a bad option. What makes it difficult is that the captures I made on it really did sound quite impressive!
I’m giving this company one more chance by ordering the quad cortex. I’m hoping it’s not buggy.
I feel like the nano cortex firmware update was too hasty. It added features and also a big bug!
