This might be a dumb question, but I was wondering if you’re able to have separate FX blocks for pedals in the same loop on the QC. I’m thinking about getting one and want to make sure it can do what I need. I want to have an SY-200 and a Source Audio Collider linked to the same midi controller, but I would obviously want the SY-200 at the start of my chain and the Collider at the very end. Just wondering if it’s possible to route it that way.
You can only insert one FX block in one location on the grid. Blocks cannot be programmed to dance around the grid with Scenes or MIDI.
The QC has two FX loops, so you could have your SY-200 in FX Loop 1 and Collider in FX Loop 2–two separate blocks–then place each of those blocks where you want them.
A few things to remember:
- Each FX loop is mono only.
- Each FX loop introduces another set of DAC and ADC conversion, which adds latency. If you’re OK with that, go for it.
- You will mostly likely need to adjust send and return levels for each FX loop.
That was my plan originally, but I wasn’t sure if I could still have them controlled by the same midi controller if they’re in separate loops. I’m still relatively new to the world pedalboards, so all the technical stuff still confuses me a bit.
Midi will work independently of the loops.
Will you be using the quad cortex to send midi messages, or a dedicated midi controller?
You can always use midi to turn the pedals off and on when required, so they could go before or after your quad, as well as in the the fx loops.
After some more research, my plan is to have an MC3 for them so I can have everything for the SY-200 in bank 1 and the Collider in bank 2. Thank you both for the help!
