I am having a frustrating issue with my Quad Cortex since I updated it to the latest firmware. After using the unit for 30-60 minutes, it randomly freezes. The display becomes completely unresponsive, and none of the controls (buttons, knobs, or footswitches) work. The only way to resolve this is to power cycle the device, but this obviously interrupts my workflow, especially during live performances or rehearsals. I’ve tried using different presets, including simpler ones, but the freezing still occurs.
However, I’ve noticed that the issue seems more frequent when I’m using presets that have multiple effects blocks, complex chains, or more intensive configurations. The freezing often happens during preset transitions, or when I’m adjusting controls in real-time, like changing effects or tweaking parameters mid-performance.
This problem has made it difficult to rely on the Quad Cortex for shows and practice sessions, as I never know when it’s going to freeze. It’s also been frustrating because there doesn’t seem to be any pattern to when it freezes, aside from the fact that it happens after a prolonged period of use.
I’ve checked the firmware version to make sure it’s the latest, and I’ve even tried rebooting the device and reloading presets to see if that fixes it, but nothing has worked so far. I have checked Bug Reports - Neural DSPmongodb guide for reference.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues? I would appreciate any suggestions or troubleshooting tips to help resolve this.
I agree with @morisson. Also, I assume you are using the stock power supply? Otherwise, this seems like a rare issue that may only be resolved via factory reset and or via email to support@neuraldsp.com.
Cor OS update 3.2.0 went fine, but as soon as I tried to ad for any effect, QC is freezing and after a few seconds it shows: QC encountered an error: Rebooting!
Stock PSU, QC ran flawlessly for month, until the update….
I’ll wait for response I think, but this would have been my first idea also. The strange thing is, the QC works well as long as I keep all presets ‘unchanged’.
Oops, you got a point @MP_Mod. I found out, just some Presets deliver this reboot-error. Questions is, what makes a Preset corrupt!?! Any advice appreciated
Support can look/analyze your preset and determine where the issue is. Usually it’s due to a corrupt capture/IR but honestly haven’t seen this problem in a while but support can definitely help.
Thanks a lot!! I’ve already located the error. Sounds strange, but it was a single Compressor which caused the problem. I copied all preset settings, deleted it and built a new one, thats it. Even the QC ran flawlessly as long as I didn’t modify anything, it’s always a bad feeling, playing live in 3 days with this unit. So thanks again for your hint!
