Quad Cortex Development Update #50 - CorOS 3.0.0 launches July 31st!

man, this is incredible. I can’t wait!

The fact that this Synth is called ‘Mono Synth’ is interesting , it is not ‘Overlord Synth’ as in Rabea…

I really hope they add a ‘free’ synth for everyone, and not only the Rabea Plugin version (and I own the Rabea Plugin, so…) , because it would give the QC a real advantage over the competition…

I’ve never used a NDSP plugin, am I going to need an ilok to activate the free plugin? or any others that I buy?

My guess is no. Previously the plugins were exclusively for the desktop - Windows and MacOS only - with iLok to protect IP. Now it runs directly on the QC, with your cloud account doing the IP protection. At least that’s what it looks like to me. As a Linux user, this represents my first opportunity to try out a plug in and so I’m looking forward to July 31.

Well they teased the synth block at the very launch of the QC so it was for some people a thing that made them buy it (probably not a lot but they got me with that also) so it would be very disapointing if it was finally a fee…

The photo looks good, from the begining i have a good feelings that it will be great and deep even if i doubt a little more now considering that the updates don’t reach their initials promises.

Yes, you will need an iLok account. This goes for plug-ins installed on computer and QC both.

If you’ve never used iLok before, it’s not difficult to set up an account and install the license manager software: https://www.ilok.com/#!license-manager

Thanks, you have good eyes !!

Do I need to purchase on of those USB thingies? I’ll be using plugins on my QC only.

I think you can do an ‘online’ session that doesn’t require the physical adapter. Perhaps someone can confirm?

The usb dongles are so you can activate a license on the dongle (rather than the machine) which makes transfering easier. You can also just activate it on the machine though

I don’t use a dongle at all. I just have the license manager software on my Mac and it works just fine for activating my NDSP (and other software) licenses.

I see at least 7 waveshapes, so it’s definitely not the Rabea synth (4 waveshapes), unless they add them in version X of rabea plugin

What I don’t see there are any ADSR controls, unless they’re hiding on another page somewhere.

The first tab looks to be called ‘Global & AMP’, I would guess they are in there?

Bummer. It looks like iLok is still required. As I don’t plan to waste any time with Wine on Linux, there goes my free plugin. Easy come, easy go!

Would it be worth having an extra budget laptop to get around limitations like that?

And it would also be one off, so dealing with it, even on a relatives pc/Mac might be worth it

I had the same problem with the UA Ox Amp. For that I set up a Hackintosh and that worked for a while. A budget laptop could be a more reliable alternative.

Ah, if it’s just a one off - as in I don’t have to repeatedly have iLok verify my account - then borrowing a pc/Mac would definitely work. I’ll hold my interest then as it would be nice to see how much of a difference the plugins offer over standard QC captures.

yeah, you only have to sign in once and your QC will be activated. Definitely worth pursuing
