Sweetwater Guitar Fest happened last weekend. A few photos and videos turned up of Quad Cortex units running Doom. Actually playable by pushing the footswitches. Enjoy.
I think I remember this early on when it first came out and that Cortex hack/jailbreak site went up; I’m not sure if they actually accomplished it and showed it or just said they thought it could be done.
Either way, it seems like the screen is capable of better graphics than we’ve been led to believe? Or, different anyway?
Doom isn’t that complicated of a game in terms of video processing. The resolution looked fine in some of the videos I saw on Instagram stories.
Makes sense it can run Doom. The QC runs a version of Linux. Honestly the OG Doom can run on just about anything haha. I don’t think the screen of the QC is very high resolution tbh. Doom looks fine on it, but I’m sure a modern game might look a little weird.
You can def see the pixels on the QC screen even with the basic graphics it has (which is fine). But I understand why they didn’t even want to have more detailed views of the amps/pedals like in the plugins. You can tell how much better the graphics are on a laptop screen via the QC when using Cortex Control or a plugin.
I’m glad we landed on the block layout for plug-ins for the QC. It doesn’t need the fancy graphics.
I just think running the game like this is fun.
Oh yeah running the game is really funny. The layout of the QC is great for easily dialing stuff in quickly and is very intuitive
Guess they found my project. ![]()
While it’s tempting to make everything skeuomorphic it makes little sense in the digital realm and lacks a certain creativity.
Keep the buttons actual buttons, knobs things that turn and invent new UI elements for digital that best accommodate the space.
IMO, the diagrams on the QC are all that is needed for the heads up display.
