QC -> Reaper

Just got my QC. Woot!

When I plug headphones into QC, it sounds great.

What I would like to do is have the following:
QC --usb–> Reaper (Windows), monitor track ON --wireless–> Wireless Headphones

That setup worked great with my Axe FX XLII+.

Right now, I can’t even get a good recording (much less the monitoring)…
It sounds mostly like a dry signal coming from the usb and it sporadically sounds like it is clipping or spazzing out.

So I guess my initial question is, what is a working setup from QC → Reaper on windows10?

I’ve tried ASIO as well as WASAPI.
The levels show up on the track and master just fine and no clipping there.

But the recording just sounds terrible.

Thanks…

You say it sounds like a dry signal, do you mean a DI signal? If so, make sure to use the usb 3/4 channels; channel 1 and 2 are for DI of inputs 1 and 2.

Regarding the clipping, there’s a known bug in the NDSP driver that causes static noise, could be mistaken for clipping. For info on this bug see also Occasional Audio Glitches as USB Interface.

Try using Asio4all and make sure the levels of your inputs in the QC are not clipping, too (slide down from the top to open the i/o menu).

Hope that helps

Yes. Sounds like DI… but with what sounds like a bad cable every few seconds…

So I downloaded and installed asio4all… I can see the levels on the track in reaper working. I can see the levels in QC are not clipping and I can see OUT 3/4 on the USB settings are going up and down as I play.

I don’t have any output to headphones on the PC yet.
When I hit record… I can see the reaper track showing the waveform captured… but nothing during monitoring and nothing during playback… so I guess I have to tinker with the audio in asio4all in reaper?

Ok… progress… I have the input from QC on 3/4, I have the output to the headphones and I hear what it should be (instead of the DI signal).

Now I need to just figure out what this horrible glitch or clipping is…

Every second or so I hear a ticking sound… and then intermittently it goes into ‘robot’ sounding mode…
Definitely sounds somewhat similar to one of the samples that person linked in that thread you referenced about usb glitches.

I’ve tried a ton of different settings so far and nothing seems to change it…

I tried cakewalk as well… just to see if it was reaper…

Nope… same garbage sound.

Strange, sounds like you habe that Usb audio glitch issue but others (me included) could resolve it by using asio4all.
Reaper is not the problem, I also use the QC into Reaper with no issues on asio4all.

I suggest to write to support@neuraldsp.com, best including a short video of your issue. They are really responsive and surely can help you fix the issue.
