QC clipping, nothing plugged in

for whatever reason, when I turn on my QC, it get this big static sound through all the inputs and outputs, including USB 1/2 & 3/4 - and nothing is plugged in to it. I’ve done factory resets and I’m not sure what to do. My CorOS is up to date, and it’s being powered by the DC7. I do a lot of recording work and use the QC for web conferencing so this is kind of a big deal. any tips appreciated

The QC is grounded by plugging an output into a grounded piece of equipment, so you can’t expect it to necessarily be silent with nothing plugged in. Does it make noise when you plug it into an FRFR or another grounded monitor? Have you checked your I/O levels on the swipe-down I/O menu?

If grounding it doesn’t help, unless you have a hardware problem, it sounds like dirt on the power line or something in the house generating noise. Hopefully something in your own house as apartment life can sometimes mean a neighbor’s appliance is responsible.

First try moving your unit to another room and outlet. Does it do this when you take it to another home or rehearsal space. Try systematically turning everything in your home off until the noise goes away. Preferably with circuit breakers if you can. Remember that lighting, particularly LED lighting can cause noise on the line.

Hey Pascal, I ran into the same problem and I’m still not sure how to fix it… I noticed that I ran into this problem by plugging the QC into an extension socket with too many other devices/amps in it, when I use another power supply, or when the FOH sends phantom power to my xlr inputs… When I plug it into a wall socket, with the right power supply, and without the phantom power, the static sound fades in like 15 minutes or so… I would like to know how to avoid it, but for now it seems like I have to be careful with any kind of ‘malfunctioning’ power supply. Please let me know if you’ve found some solution for it!

you should definitely contact Support for this issue, some have reported they’ve had to send their unit in for hardware repairs in this case.
