Power off or shut down?

I don’t know enough about electrical hardware, so my question is:
Is it absolutely necessary (if everything has been saved manually) to shut down the QC regularly using the power button? Or can I simply switch off the power supply at the power adapter?

It is safe to just pull the plug. NDSP has confirmed this multiple times as well.
