Ownhammer IRs - TOO MANY CHOICES

OMG guys… how the heck do you even start selecting from the Ownhammer packs? Just looking through lists of what’s in the packs and I’m overwhelmed, let alone knowing what ones to start trying with.

i found an ebay pack called superpack, with a really good selection of IR

I used to run an IR loader in a DAW on a pre-recorded guitar loop and just toggle thru the IR folder from the loader plug-in, then mark the file for upload.
Got fairly tedious in those ‘1000 variation’ folders of endless wav files.
It’s a rabbit-hole of endless FOMO for sure.

This was one of the points that sold me on GGD Zilla. I already had several huge folders of free IRs I’d found, and found it pretty overwhelming as it was.

GGD has an idiot-proof UI and everything is phase matched, so you can blend anything and everything and not worry.

I would recommend starting with players and amp/speaker tones you are familiar with and/or like. Then figure out what’s in those cabinets for speakers, how they are configured: 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, open/closed back, etc. That is, figure out the overall tone you’re looking for, and find real world examples of amps and cabinets that come close.

Next, think about how you like to set the overall recorded tone of that amp and cabinet: full/thin in the low frequencies and bright/dark in the high frequencies. This helps determine mic choice and position.

Then use this to narrow down the IRs you need to audition. Select a few IRs that are around the range of real-world things you know you like, and audition them to choose the best one.

Then don’t worry about it too much. Focus on having fun playing and making music.

Go with the Essentials packs. They’re much newer and labelled better, etc. for what you want. The older stuff (legacy packs) are still good but some of it is years old now and they’ve probably refined things a bit. Just my 2 cents.
