Tips for using IR's?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for any tips on how people use IR’s, like how do you choose when you have so many options in a package?

When do you use just 1 IR or 2?
If I have a 2 mic “mix” should I only use the 1 IR?

I have bought some Vox AC30 or matchless IR’s from several companies but they all sound very different, which one actually sounds accurate?

Also, I had some York Audio packages because I heard they’re good, I would load different IR’s to my presets, and think YA ones are bad because they all sound too bright and thin, but I only just realised if I tune the amp to a YA IR by dropping treble/presence, it sounds good. So if I have stock Neural Cab and tune and then put in YA IR it sounds like this, but if I load one from another company it sounds good.

So what I’m wondering is it just that YA are by default more “bright”? Should you be tuning the amp to the IR’s rather than just loading different ones?

Any tips at all on using IR’s would be great as I have quite a lot of them but haven’t gotten much use out of them.

I use both, but mainly stock cabs because there is nothing wrong with them…and I know someone else will say ir’s are better… And yes you will need to EQ or setup your amps tone to taste cause regardless of what you use you’ll be trying to get the tone you are used to or what you hear in your head…

And just to say itl be down to your own likes and dislikes if you feel you prefer the stock cabs just use them there’s no magic in ir’s vs stock… Everyone hears differently and we all have our preferences and none of them are right for everyone trust your own ears.

And also the ir’s I use are my own that I make in home studio… Reason for this is the way most places make theres, neutral clean power amp feeding the cab… And personally that’s not how I hear a real amp I like tube amps so I like to hear the power amp tube output stage reflected in my own ir’s… So if I’m making an ir of my own speakers I like the output of the tubes in there…

None of anything is the right way to do it… And again use what you like cause people will tell you this that and the other… Like captures vs stock amps I use both and they both work equally as good to me…

Happy sound shaping… And apologies for the big messge
