Opening up the Quad

Hey guys!

My Quad broke down a week ago. It sounds just fine and the buttons are working, but the screen is acting weird. I can see changes in the colors when I change presets but that’s about it.

I’ve been in contact with both Neural DSP and Thomann about a refund. They want to replace it which is nice, but I don’t have the possibility to wait for a whole month for the repair. I can get it working just fine with the cortex control, but the screen is off.

Time for the question! Does anyone have any experience with opening up the Quad yourself? Specifically tried to make a repair for this exact problem. I have quite a lot of experience with fixing pedals and amps and stuff.

Or do any of you have any other solutions? Any help is much appreciated I don’t really know what to do.

I can’t recommend opening the unit since it would likely violate your warranty. If you want to know what is inside, however, this video is helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzbKtmEt68E

Note that the version he opens in this video is likely older than current production.

Just message support and get it repaired by them. You’ll probably need the screen to be replaced, or there’s some other sort of hardware failure in the unit. Realistically it’s probably more than just the screen, and if you break it during the repair it’ll cost you a lot for them to fix it since you’ll be out of warranty

You say Thomann want to replace it. Why would that take a month?

Out of curiosity, how would NDSP know if the case had been opened just to look at things? Is there a seal that is broken? I ask because I bought a back coverreplacement (temporary) that has the the mounting posts and screws to attach to a temple board. It’s a great alternative to the plates, but I don’t want to void my warranty by temporarily replacing the back cover. Thoughts?

They would definitely be able to tell if there are marks on the screws like a screwdriver was used on them.

You’d have to ask Neural if doing that would void the warranty. They’re probably less concerned about someone opening the back compared to the OP who was wanting to replace the screen/take apart the entire QC
