I need both, an iPad (live) and PC (studio) editor.
Still waiting on my QC but really hopeful for an iOS/iPad editor. Would be nice to have the unit on the floor and use my iPad standing with a music stand.
Yes, you do, and let me tell you why. When the Editor is released, most likely the ability to store your full-backup locally will be released with it. You wonāt need the cloud to do this then, plus you will have the ability to save and change settings on the QC while using a DAW host while not bouncing from the QC to the Monitor screen. That may not sound like much until around 3-4 hours into a session, but it is needed. Itās the little things that matter!
I have had my QC for a couple months now, numerous rehearsals and a few gigs. Not once have I even thought of needing an editor. To me the editor is built into the unit with a 7in. touchscreen. I love the fact that when I need to adjust the mix level on my verb or lower the gain on the OD I can do it in real time in a couple sec in the mid of a song. Press the block, turn the knob, press done and I am done. Itās really not much different than having a pedalboard in front of my like I have for the last 30 years.
Now, with an editor, it would allow me the other stuff I would like. For example we need the ability to save our backup locally and not just to the cloud. Also better ease of preset management would be welcome. But even the latter stuff is easy and relatively quick on the QC itself.
Coming from a Fractal AX8 everything is so much better and easier. Man I hated editing on the AX8 and having to rely on a laptop to change settings, I never want to bring a laptop to rehearsals or gigs.
Really loving the QC and I will welcome the editor when it is ready, but until then itās full steam ahead.
The only thing I miss is the ability to save a local backup. I would love to see this possible as a folder on the QC itself as well as an editor version. For now, Iām just having fun playing it!
Some Fanboys tell, that an editor is not required but in my oppinion this is a missing basic function and every other Manufacturer has this function included from the beginning (Also the cheapest modeller you can get)
and the Promise āEditor comes shortly after releaseā is ridiculous, i have the Cortex about a Year and a Year is definitly far away from āshortly after Releaseā
I cant understand, that Neural has still no editor, this Device is on one Hand absolutely gorgeous, on the other Hand it still has some No-Go Points
- missing editor
- not able to load the purchased Plugins to Cortex
- cheap Powersupply
- very long loading timeā¦
the worst thing is, that Neural DSP seems to ignore the requests for the promises like an Editor or loading the purchased VST to Cortex completely
I think you seriously underestimate the complexities of software development. I am a developer and despite working with some of the smartest minds and largest teams, throwing more developers at a problem doesnāt solve it faster for a lot of things. I think in the case of NDSP, maybe it was a little too ambitious to say shortly after launch.
You really should join Discord, NDSP is far from ignoring promises. I see Dan and whatnot bring up the editor and ability to support plugins on numerous occasions. They are aware these things are important and they are working on them. For all we know, 1.3 comes with an editor, we just donāt know.
Well said!
Guess I should join the Discord as well. I think part the problem is that people expect NDSP to be more present on their forum while NDSP intends it to be mostly for user interaction.
If you only look into this forum you can get the impression that Neural donāt care about the doubts and issues their customers face as they seldom respond here.

You are right, i have really no idea about Software developement, but NDSP promised an Editor shortly after Release and the Point not beeing able to store my Presets local, or the laborious way to load IRs to Cortex is really anoiing.
the device itself is gorgeous but Editor is in my Opinion a Basic function/requirement, even the 139ā¬ Harley Benton Modeller (by Thomann) has an editor.

absolutely correct i got the impression.
The $139 HB modeler is a complete toy compared to the QC. There is a ton going on just out of the box and delays occur. We know they will have an editor at some point and not everyone agrees it should be a priority. Myself, I would rather see priority given to file management (e.g. local backups and related) etc., but that is my opinion.
All we can do is wait, NDSP indicated the next FW update (1.3.0) will be significant and is now in BETA. Not much more you can do with that so hold tight!
An editor to manage your data, preset and capture is way more needed than to create your preset.
data management is a weakness for the QC - made even more obvious by the fact that you can have a LOT of data on it.
usability on the other hand can be done via the magnificent UI easily and unless you use the device in a studio for long hours is not a problem.
much easier to have the unit on the floor with expression pedals etc and tweak with a tablet, laptop etc. Allows foot control as well as deep level exciting with hands.
For live performance, an editor is awesome snap. Tweaking effect parameters during a delay trail can create some wild stereo effects .
TBH evey device I used with had a phone/tablet editor were a real PITA to use.
look at the QC, do you tweak most parameters using the touch screen, or the rotary stomps? (im 95% of time using stomps)
canāt say the same of a desktop editor, these are usually very functional.
I would really like to see that, just for more subtle tweaking of the sound, but of course it has to be integrated and automatically uploaded tot the cloud and added to the CQ. I also (like a said somewhere else in this forum) would like to see an integration with plugins (Iāve got the Patrucci and will purchase the Gojira soon), so an intelligent option wold be to integrate it and adding the IRs to the CQ (as an option), including the NDSP and my own User Patches.
Hello
I am quite disappointed with this and other things promised. As I have commented in other topics of the forum, I need to communicate from my tablet via midi and midi tempo synchronization is not includedā¦ a real shame for what the CORTEX could give of itself.
Sorry about the promised support and sorry for not having purchased the Kemper
Iām sorry for your disappointment, keep on communicating with NDSP on this
Create a request for that and let everyone vote on it. If it gets lots of votes, NDSP will probably implement it but personally, I want to see a file manager/local backups etc., implemented prior.
I thinks a lotta folks would like to see that, keep me posted
Yep. I agree. Maybe Iāll change my mind after the editor rolls out before the end of this year. But at the moment I donāt see the need for it at all. I try not to judge what I donāt understand lol. However, the amount of ire aimed at Neural for not having an editor is surprising to me. Then again, I am a caveman. And even though Iām a grumpy SOB, I am not bothered by having to move approximately 3 feet to make a change on a UI that even an old knuckle dragger like myself can understand. Ya knowā¦thatās just how it is out here in the jungle. Sometimes you gotta stoop down and get slightly dirty, which doesnāt bother meā¦even with these compromised knees and accompanying joint pain. Plus I am rather forgetful these days and Iād rather not have to bring yet another piece of tech to the show. Additionally, I do not mind having the QC on my desktop (or near it) for when I need to do some editing. Coming from the Fractal world, the UI was a big reason why I bought the QC to begin with. Fractal has a desktop editor and thereās Fracpad, and this was the only way I could really edit patches on my old AX8. I hated that. And I hated that I couldnāt make changes on the fly at shows if I had to access the clunky, counterintuitive UI. With QC I donāt need an editor. Donāt need any peripherals either (smartphones, tablets, etc.) I just make the edit via the touchscreen and Iām doneā¦speaking of which, I rarely have to do that in a live environment. But again, I am a caveman. Soā¦yeah, you get the idea. Anyway, I was just curious why all the complaints about not having a desktop editor. Having perused the thread, now I know. I guess you can teach an old dawg new tricks. To each their own. Party on.
OK, well I wish NDSP would make a studio version of the QC with no screen and no footswitches, ONLY controlled by Control and a periphery switching setup of your own choosing.
